Awesome if you use ambient light screen
I really love this projector. It took some adjusting of colors and brightness. I found a good scene that was bright and showed a sky in the background and adjusted until i had good color and brightness untill the whites were not washed out and i could see the clouds properly. Definitely took some tweaking. But the picture is great. In bright mode i dont hear the fan and its only about 12 feet from my couch. I cant stress this enough but use an ambient light reflecting screen. Its important. The screen is meant for only receiving light from below. So it shows the projector light but doesnt get washed out by the room lights. I have three large windows in this room and watch during the day with lights on and blinds open and can see the picture just fine. Of course it washes out a tad. But its very watchable. In the pictures added i show no lights on and my recessed lights on full. The color washes a tad but it looks great. If you take the time to adjust color, brightness, contrast and other settings to make it look right. You will not be disappointed. I am using a 100 inch screen and the projector only sits about a foot from the wall. I also use an apple tv for all my apps. I don't think the out of the box apps and connectivity is all that great. To get the best performance and apps, use a different streaming device. Fire tv or something. I also use a bose sound system. I have never used the speaker built in. If you plan on using a projector, you should use a receiver and external speakers and streaming device. Its going to give you the best sound and use of any apps you might want. The color and brightness are the best i have seen for the price sub 4k video quality of any projector i havr ever had. And i have had many. My old epson was very close, but was a ceiling mounted projector and i hate casting shadows on the screen. Adjustment to the screen is very usable. You have lots of options to get the picture correct and you can use screen shift if you need to use the projector at an angle. I do plan on upgrading to a 4k if i can find something for the right price that has this level of brightness. Dont hesitate to buy this projector. If all else fails, you have prime return. I hope this review helps you.

Not Bad
I got this because my wife was tired of having a projector on a table in the middle of the room and a giant octopus of wires trailing from it.Picture quality is NOT as good as my previous Epson projector. Picture is a bit dark, blue, and under-saturated. I haven't been able to get to look much better by tweaking in settings either.Noise level is GREAT if you have run in economy mode. If you have it run in bright mode the noise is distracting, so I don't use it. I imagine electric bill would be higher in that mode too. A pity, because it looks "good" in that mode, and "acceptable" in low power mode.Startup time is fine. Projection ratio is good. Unfortunately if it isn't dead-center to the picture you want to project none of the keystone correction options really help. no matter what I did the picture was either skewed, crooked, or off center. Oh well. Just make sure you have space DEAD CENTER of where you the picture projected. This has been a real challenge for me with 9 devices hooked up to my home theater.Another item of concern: I live where it is very dusty and I had to frequently clean the dust filter for my old projector. I CAN'T for this one. There is no dust filter where indicated on the manual. On the OPPOSITE side there seems to be one, but there is nothing that opens up to access it. It appears to be PERMANENT with no way to clean it. I hope heat doesn't become an issue and cause damage with no way to clean the air filter. The projector also runs real hot out of the box even on low power mode, so be aware of heat flow and airspace as well if you don't want to cook your other home theater devices.

first and foremost this is NOT a laser projector...
Again this is NOT A LASER PROJECTOR, do not confuse it with other ultra short throws that are laser, this one is standard LED. Not saying that's a 'bad' thing per say; just had to put it out there because NO WHERE in the Amazon ad or even on Optoma's website indicate it's LED (if there is I was hard pressed to find it). For the record my room is a fairly large size (18'x20') ...Alright let's get down to the nit and gritty:PROS:-short throw means short throw, this bad boy sits less than a foot away from my 100" screen and it cast a simply 'beautiful image. Moving it even an inch away expands the image significantly..moving it 6 inches away and you have 150-200 inch image!-price: ok $1,100 is by no means 'cheap' but compared to a 200 lb 90" TV (which can cost $6K or more) it's a bargain-brightness- OMG this projector is BRIGHT, along with great contrast! using it in a room with all your room lights on should'nt be a problem (at least not in my room). Daylight viewing is incumbent upon whether your window allows North, South,East or West; my main window allows only Western light to come in meaning it's longer rays, and tapers off as the Sun sets (in contrast to Eastern rays which are brutal and stronger)...but there is no free lunch, all this brightness comes with a price (more on that later).-colors: brilliant, vivid colors galore, whites are bright, blacks are great -but this all depends on your background, I'm currently using a standard white background although I'm also going to use a grey, ambient rejecting screen shortly.-edge to edge sharpness: THIS is primarily the reason I went with a UST projector after reading they do great four corner sharpness-and this one does although keystone'ing can be a challenge. My other projector (YABER Native 1920x 1080P Projector) does not do 4 corner sharpness 'unless' it's positioned head-on, (which I can't do with the screen size needed, therefore it has to sit at an angle).-VGA out put: GREAT for power point, or webpages, I "NEED" VGA due to 90% of use is via my laptop watching live stream TV, youtube etc.,.-Fan: is quiet! compared to my YABER Native 1920x 1080P Projector which is fairly loud. An added plus of having a projector close (and I mean close!) to the screen is you're away from the fan.Cons: ok here we go:- although I was indeed overwhelmed by the great colors, great contrast, great size, etc., I was a bit UNDERwhelmed by it's lack of detail..let me explain: when I filled my screen and viewed the evening news live feed the persons on screen seemed 'clumpy', pixelated (not excessively, but to me noticable)..by contrast my $267 YABER Native 1920x 1080P Projector has 'incredible' detail showing fine details in people's hair, eyelashes, skin detail, etc.,.. the only reason I don't keep it is it doesn't do 4 corner sharpness well enough. and YES, I'm sure my laptop's video card has a lot to do with images, and my screen, yadda, yadda, I feel if my $260 video projector can do well, this should too.-FLAT SURFACES ARE A MUST: I have a electric roll down screen which is not flat, and ultra short throws (not just this one) 'exaggerates' any slightest fold or wrinkle... shooting on a flat surface ie wall or stretched screen is best.-the fan is HOT: as noted 'there is no free lunch'; all the great image size and technology needed for a short throw comes with a price: heat. This bad boy can kick out a bit of heat, almost likea mini space heater. NOT so bad now because it's winter lol...ok, perhaps it's not 'super hot'; probably comparable to a hair dryer on low setting) but I know come summer that will bother me (and yes I have AC but I rarely use it here in So Cal). This is the primary reason I got rid of a pair of stereo tube amps once due to the heat they gave off in the Summer - and those were no were near the heat this unit throws.-COST: wait a minute you just said the cost was a 'pro', well yeah I did but due to the lack of detail (in my opinion, others may feel differently) especially knowing my $260 proj does better, I can't say paying $1100 is a good buy.So there you have it. I may in the future go with a laser short throw just to see how they compare but they're currently $3K, waaaay out of my range.Bottom line: if you want a BEAUTIFUL, large image and you're not concerned with macro-detail (I am, being a former photographer) and want a great, daytime, HUGE image ie for sports, etc., or if you don't want to be bothered with hanging hardware (or can't because of rental clauses) or folks walking in front casting shadows -this is a great short throw.*seen on pic is a 100" image, guitar there to shows perspective, curtain drawn open on a HUGE window (about 120") at 9:00am, overcast day.
