There are several other similar ice chippers on Amazon that I looked at. Each stated they used (or looked as though from pictures) nickel/chrome plated tines. My past experience with plated metal instruments used for chipping or striking, is that they eventually fail, and the plating will flake and peel. This chipper claimed and appeared to have solid stainless tines with no plating -- a much better option -- and it lives up to that claim. The tines are solid steel with no apparent plating. I can't vouch for the type of steel as I'm not a metallurgic expert. The steel is magnetic, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not some form of stainless.The chipper has great weight in the hand and an excellent handle. No slips here with the molded thermoplastic rubber grip. The metal shaft of the chipper also looks a lot sturdier than others on Amazon. It appears to be a solid cross-section of metal along with the head, and tines cast into the assembly as opposed to press fit. The tines are also fairly sharp. They aren't needle points, but being that sharp they would quickly bend and dull. This should make for a robust and long-lasting tool. Time will tell.My only tiny criticism is that because the tines were directly cast into the head, there was some slight overcasting of metal up onto a couple of the tines. The was fairly easily removed with a sharp utility knife and a small file. I just wanted to be sure I didn't have any of it peeling off into my ice. Otherwise the quality of the casting is excellent; no burrs or seams. No plating anywhere on the metal to flake off or corrode beneath.Shipping from Fradon Lock was excellent, and very fast. It actually beat my Amazon Prime 2-day shipment by a couple hours due to USPS getting to my office before UPS.

I’ve had this ice chipper since December of 2018 and today September 2024 is when it finally broke. This thing was used on a near daily basis to break down the kind of ice you see in the meat and seafood cases at grocery stores. I here now to buy again! Definitely recommend!

We got this for breaking up big blocks of chocolate and it does a much better job than I expected. Used to use a chef's knife, but this is easier and much safer. Points are wicked sharp and hold up great.

No dislikes,this is a must have. If you do baking with chocolate bars this breaks the chocolate in nice chunks for baking. Multiple uses cheese etc. it's sharp so use carefully...but it needs to be. Well made nice grip

I would give this a 10 out of 5. This product is fantastic. My family uses a lot of ice so we buy the 16 pound bags and dump them in a bin in the freezer. Problem always is that it melts slightly on the way home and then refreezes as more of a block of ice. Using the classic ice pick was doable but took a lot of effort and sometimes made a mess due to ice chips flying out of freezer. The Ice/Chocolate Pick works like a dream. It chops up the ice in seconds and does it without making a mess. I wish we had purchased this years ago. It is a steal for the price.

I researched a lot of ice picks finally decided on this one and I am glad I did. Super easy to use handle well attached . Super sharp ! Works like a charm. Only thing I find I wish was different is the cover for it is just cardboard I would like something more lasting especially since it’s super sharp

Had trouble with the ice in our ice machine morphing into solid blocks, this thing is FANTASTIC for breaking them up effortlessly. Have used it daily for months, nice and heavy duty with no rusting. Worked fantastically on breaking up unsweetened chocolate blocks also. I've used it to break up milk jugs of frozen water, love it!
