Classic CMG Official Finger Grip Whistle, Black

As a teacher, this whistle will grab the attention of kids with the shortest attention spans! I use this whistle at about half force when calling the end of recess and it could be heard across the yard easily. In fact, this whistle has made my teaching easier because when i so much as bring the whistle up to my lips, the kids hush because the whistle is irritating to them. Not to be mean, but this has saved so much "please be quiet" time and has allowed me to finish my lessons with ease.I also plan to referee volleyball this summer with this whistle and it should work like a charm!The whole reason i decided to write this review though is because I used it today in an emergency. I pulled over after seeing a motorcyclist lying on the ground and the whistle grabbed attention of emergency personnel more easily as they approached. Mind you, this is in San Francisco next to a busy highway!My last note is that the mouth guard allows you to keep the whistle in your mouth without your teeth hurting and that is a BIG plus for me. This thing is priceless!

This whistle is a very bad fake (a sad trend among 3rd party sellers on Amazon). I know it sounds strange to criticize a whistle as being fake, but as a referee this specific whistle is required by my sport and this is not the real thing. The real model has a plastic bezel around the mouthguard, the mouthguard is glued to the whistle, and it comes with a grey breakaway lanyard. The one I received was the basic $1 model (might even be a fake of that) with some bulky fake mouthguard slapped on it (so it slides around), a mis-matched cheapo lanyard (half the clip is silver and the other half is brass colored), all in a plastic bag rather than the Fox40 packaging... and they sold it for the price of the more expensive model.

I've been using the Fox 40 for the past two years while serving as a head judge in the canine sport of Flyball. Dogs *really* love the sport so there is a lot of loud, enthusiastic barking so I needed a whistle that could easily be heard over all the excitement so that I could stop the action when required for a safety issue or a restart. Without much effort the whistle produces a nice, clear, loud sound. Some participants have said the whistle is too loud (and I could be blowing much harder!) but if the competitors aren't complaining the whistle isn't loud enough...

Based on all the glowing reviews, I eagerly bought this whistle thinking that it would be loud and easy to use. Not so. I need to blow really hard to produce any adequate level of sound, which is basically just a high-pitched squeak. I was expecting the whistle to make a shrill but booming sound like the ones that referees use, but this whistle doesn't even come close. Severely disappointed in this product.

I am a coach for youth wrestling and needed a good whistle to use for practice, needed something that the kids would hear. WOW, this whistle makes my ears ring using it if I blow very hard. I'm certain I will get their attention. I've also tried it out on my own kids, just to be sure it would have the effect I was hoping for. They've come to hate it because it is so loud. I strongly suggest not using it up close. If you are needing a good, loud whistle, this is it!

Pay the extra money and buy the Mini Fox 40. It comes with the mouth grip AND lanyard. Also, I don't know why they call this a "Mini". This seems to be a regular standard size whistle. Regardless, you won't be disappointed with the performance of this whistle. You don't have to blow "rediculously" hard. This really works good. I'm very pleased with the quality and performance. :)

I had the house to myself and decided to give this whistle one good dose of air - and boy was it loud.Keep in mind - this isn't one of those whistles that you can just put a little bit of air through. With that said, it doesn't require too much either.Not really much to say about it otherwise. Serves my purposes (self-defense) perfectly. 5/5
