Kept two Backpackers comfy and dry during heavy summer mountain monsoon, excellent shelter!
Just took this shelter out for a wilderness mountain trip, first use...second night we got hammered from sheets of heavy rain for several hours in higher sub alpine climate...the Rolling Fox tarp held up perfectly, under heavy rain, we hung out underneath it sitting on a Ridge hammock and stayed dry and comfy...outstanding shelter! Bomber construction.

I love it!
I bought this primarily to use as a footprint for my Tarptent Notch 1p backpacking tent, as it's just about the right size to protect the floor of the tent and provide a little bit of floor in the vestibules. Haven't pitched the Notch yet to try it. BUT it's a very well made, well thought out tarp. I've never been one to use tarps but I think this one might get used a lot! They sent a link to a PDF with instructions for 25 different ways to pitch a tarp. I spent Easter Sunday in the back yard, pitching it this way and that, using 2 poles and 4 poles and trees and ... FUN! Some of the pitches were for a square or rectangle and wouldn't work with this diamond shaped tarp. I had so much fun I might have to buy a rectangular tarp just to try the rest of the designs. Some reviewers complained that it's not as big as the measurements state. That's not true. It's not a 9x11 rectangle, this is a diamond shaped tarp (parallelogram if you're a math geek), 11' long tip to tip on the long axis and 9' across tip to tip on the short axis. Each side measures 7.5'. There are sturdy cloth loops at 3 equal points on each side, and on the 4 tips, 16 loops total. On the 4 tips there's a sturdy metal ring in the loop. All the loops are reinforced and well stitched. It looks like all the seams have been taped for waterproofing, but I'm not 100% certain about that.It comes packed in a stuff bag, with 4 guy lines almost 11' long and 4 stakes of the sturdier "garden staple" type in a smaller bag. The guy lines have black plastic 3-hole tensioners affixed. I threw those away and used a bowline knot on the tarp end and taut line hitch on the stake end. Once you know those two knots you don't need tensioners and everything gets simpler. As packaged it weighs 21.75 ounces (well, that's not quite true, I had already removed the tensioners before I weighed, but they can't have been an ounce for all 4). The tarp alone weighs 15.35 ounces. The stakes were adequate in my back yard but you'll probably want something sturdier for hard packed earth.Pitched on two trekking poles with the opposite corners pegged directly into the ground made a reasonably protected space for two backpacker chairs or a nice cooking/dining space for two. Four people could huddle out of the rain but it would be close quarters and somebody's elbows would probably get wet. Pitched on four trekking poles of equal height it made a much larger shaded area, but then it's pretty flat and would pool up rain. Dropping two poles to a slightly lower height would alleviate that somewhat. This is my first backpacking tarp so I can't attest to how it compares to others, but compared to the big old canvas monsters I grew up with, this is a dream come true. I'm sure there are lighter tarps out there, but probably not for $35.99.

Smaller Than Advertised.
Advertised as 360cm x 280cm (roughly 141 x 110 inches or about 11 x 9 feet), this tarp is actually much smaller than this sounds. The tarp measures about 7' 8" along each outer seam; however, this is deceptive as well, because the tarp is not a flat square. Although not ultralight, the material is reasonably lightweight and a 9'x9' square tarp of this weight would have suited my purposes very nicely, but the "sway back" shape of this tarp allows only a fair weather or light rain configuration that is of little use to me. I also strongly dislike the cream color; it appears grey in the image.

Great tarp for backpacking in the Pacific Northwest!
Excellent quality tarp for backpacking at a good price! Lots of high quality tie-outs and a solid stuff sack. It's a good size for solo trips or for creating a dry place to chill in a downpour. I do most of my trips in the Pacific Northwest so setting up camp in heavy rains is the norm. If they offered a larger one with as many tie-outs, like 12' square, I'd buy that too. Excellent product!

I checked it afterwards to see if there was any fraying or signs of wear and it came through great. It's not the lightest thing
I set this up between two trees in a hurry because we've been getting these weird pop-up storms and you really never know when you're gonna get wet. It did well in moderate wind and heavy rain to the point where i even took a nap on my ground tarp. I checked it afterwards to see if there was any fraying or signs of wear and it came through great. It's not the lightest thing on the market but for the cost and durability i'd say it was a bargain. I'll probably replace the stakes with titanium to save a bit on weight but other than that I think it's great.

Kept 3 hammockers dry in an extended downpour.
Very attentive seller. Also sent a pdf of 25 different ways to pitch the tarp. Very pleased with my purchase. I bought 3 and all performed well providing ample coverage to keep 3 hammockers dry during a weekend downpour while backpacking. No issues with quality or craftsmanship, all 3 are consistent in build quality. The included guylines, stakes, suspension cordage and stuffsack are all usable items and not junk added to deceptively increase the "value". The PDF the seller emailed was a pleasant surprise. I'm a seasoned backpacker and am shocked at how many ways the guy-outs allow this unit be pitched. While not ripstop nylon, these are nonetheless waterproof nylon of the same caliber as ripstop. At the price I paid (<$40) I'm blown away by the product. If you get a little claustrophobic the cream color of these makes them seem almost opaque and less confining as well.Update 10/4/20Still use these and just had one serve as an emergency hammock for my 5'3" 132lb son when I forgot to pack his for a recent outing. See Pic.

... places by this point and I cannot express how great it is
This tarp has accompanied me a lot of places by this point and I cannot express how great it is. A light durable option that has saved my butt several times. On a trip in the Indian Peaks Wilderness we were caught by surprise rain. Between 7 people we somehow only had the foresight to bring 3 tarps (including my own). We stacked hammocks up to three high and covered ourselves with this tarp. I was unfortunate and got stuck with the rain fly from a tent and woke up with a damp bag and soaked clothes. The group of hammocks that used my tarp were bone when they woke. I was very jealous that I didn't get to use my tarp on its first trip out. After that trip I made sure to ALWAYS bring this fellow around as he has made it to my essentials list. Such great cover from wind and rain, especially in my hammock and sleeping bag. The endless configurations only get longer with the edition of trek poles. It has an unmatched versatility at a great price. I recommend the Rolling Fox to everyone who is looking to buy tarp for backpacking.
