English - Reading Comprehension Age 7-9 (Letts Wild About)

This is my favourite of the books in the Letts wild about series, but I do love them all! Such a good idea to have glossy pictures, exciting animals, and fun facts and jokes all around the learning the children are doing. Try this versus a photocopied comprehension sheet and you have got the children enthused! The way the comprehensions are set out is good too - small sections with questions directly below, so it really is testing comprehension, rather than simply whether the child can trawl through a long text to find the right answer.

Used this during the summer holidays, kids enjoyed it, interesting information and it really helped them progress. Would recommend to anyone whose children may be a little behind with comprehension. My kids are 8 and 9, and some was quite challenging. Sometimes felt it was too hard for the age range, but I imagine that varies from child to child.

As an NQT in Year 3, this book really helped me to plan a progression for guided reading and the children really engaged with the texts. The book progresses through different skills in a logical order and has three different levels of activity for each learning objective.

My son is in year 3 and sometimes struggles with digesting the texts in his comprehension. The poems are sometimes a little complex for him but this book has helped him so much. It’s fun, illustrated and exciting texts keep him engaged for ages and has shown him how to pick out the important parts in texts. Great book!

for a little girl who doesnt like doing school work, she spends a lot of time enjoying this book, very well done.

It was not quite what I was expecting, there are not many Comprehension activities on each 'animal' page. However, it is well laid out and colourful and it will be useful for a fast finisher activity.

Great book, interesting for children to read - which makes a change to the normal revision books. Has grabbed my sons attention and made it less of a chore getting him to do work.

I've given 5 stars because my children enjoy reading these, but I reckon there isn't enough practice in between the animal facts.
