This book is a really nice read for children who are looking to identify with some of the difficulties being faced by them and their families with a fresh diganosis of diabetes. Just beware that the opening page gives a blunt, dire warning of the complications of diabetes and mentions that insulin may not help prevent this. I ripped this page out before showing my 8 year old son as he doesn't need to know quite this much about the severity of the risks just yet. All in good time.

Will add to health resources for students.
Great book to help kids understand diabetes. Full of info and easy to read. Written for kids by two brothers about their journey with diabetes.

PAINTED A GLOOMY PICTURE FOR CHILDREN WITH DIABETES
My 6 year old son has had diabetes for 3 years. I ordered this book hoping it would be good to take to school to read to his classmates. It was very nice that the older brother had written this book and yes, the drawings are nice. I found that the book painted a gloomy picture about children with diabetes. Children with diabetes can have candy, they don't have to give up their Halloween treats. Family and friends can learn quickly to care for the child with diabetes. I am going to have to return this book. I feel it would make the kids at school more fearful rather than more comfortable being around my son.

Honest portrayal of life with diabetes
Refreshingly honest portrayal of the life of a young boy with diabetes. Written and illustrated by his own brother. I cannot understand the criticism of one reviewer here that it is too gloomy. For a child yes it can be, that's the point of this book (the clue is in the title).Kids need to be able to express this and have others understand how they are feeling. Life can't be all rainbows and sunshine! I'm making up a bag of picture books about diabetes for my son to take when he starts school this year. This will be one of them.
