It's a lightweight, surprisingly sturdy and effective seed catcher!
This product is truly effective, the seeds fall directly into the tray. This has eliminated the denuding of grass in the yard underneath the feeder where other critters were gathering. The adjustable chains allow you to customize the height and while this is very lightweight it's surprisingly sturdy. It's endured multiple squirrels using the tray as a hammock and easy pickings. My inexpensive and easy remedy for squirrel invasion was to sprinkle cayenne pepper inside the bowl, squirrels and other critters can't tolerate the heat but the birds are immune and it's harmless to them. I highly recommend!

Saves my patio from dropped seeds, hulls, and rodents
I'm pretty new to backyard birding, but I put up my first bird feeders last spring. Once the birds found my feeder, I was immediately taken aback at the amount of fallen seed and hulls that peppered my patio underneath it. Making sure to buy waste-free seed helped, but I still had quite a mess that was attracting pests. Once I installed the tray, the mess is much, much reduced. I've mostly kept the tray empty when I've refilled the feeder, and it catches any dropped seed, which the birds then pick up and eat from the tray. I've also used it to hold a handful at a time of shell-free peanuts that were too big for my regular feeder, which I filled simultaneously with regular sunflower hearts, and it worked well that way too. Between the tray and the judicious use of rodent bait, the vermin have dispersed, and the problem has been solved. This tray is pretty cheaply made, and it arrived with a crack on the side where the box it was in had been smashed. I couldn't justify paying shipping to get another one, so I sanded the edges of the crack, then sealed it with several coats of super glue. Good as new, if slightly uglier due to the presence of the glue. Thing is, if you wanted to make one yourself, you'd have to find a tray big enough, then be careful about measuring out the holes and chains in order for it to lay flat when it's attached to the feeder. Buying this tray was just easier.

Works well
This seed catcher works very well overall. The birds even enjoy sitting in it eating what falls in it. It helps avoid the mess on the ground and saves wasted seed.

Definitely keeps the seed off the ground!
Messy birds were scattering seed, which made for a huge infestation of harvester ants that would march off withthe seeds. I put these trays under my feeders, and it cut down on the ants drastically..but I have to mention,it make for a nice feeder tray for the elk..a couple of times a week one comes thru and thoroughly licks clean theseeds (and hulls) left in the tray. Feed the birds/feed the elk..win win.

Save your lawn!!
This product has saved our lawn. Before we had it, we had to continually move our feeder around the yard, because the birds would spill so much seed on the ground, and then trample the grass, and then the seed would burn the grass out when it rotted. We bought this one because it was a few inches bigger than any other model. We’ve had it for a couple of months now, and it has been amazing. It is sturdy (we didn’t actually need do use a rock to keep it from swaying in the wind). As you can see from the photo I posted, the birds like it and sit on it and eat the food out of it. Despite that, and the fact that it is mourning doves that often sit in it, they have never knocked it over and spilled it, or been scared off by it swinging. It does help to hook the hooks around two points of contact on your feeder if you have them.We wouldn’t complain if this was a couple inches bigger in diameter, but it is keeping 95% of the seed off the ground.

Works but is hard to clean with thistle (finch feeders)...
Sturdy, but thistle tends to cake in the pan, especially when wet, and it also does not drain when wet. Difficult to clean. Might be better with traditional bird seed.

This tray really helps with birdseed mess
This tray hooked on easily under the bird feeder and catches the seed as the birds make a mess. The larger birds love it as they can fit in the tray and eat what drops from the feeder.

Works Great!
Bought this to keep seed off the ground and discourage a roaming skunk from sticking around. Works great! Well constructed too!
