Hunter and His Amazing Remote Control: A Fun, Hands-On Way to Teach Self-Control to ADD/ADHD Children

Wonderful book/self-regulation program for kids with ADHD
I am a special education teacher and have used this with my second and third grade students, many of whom have ADHD, for years. They really identify with Hunter, and the story in a way that is easy for kids to understand but not too babyish or cheesy. We make our own remotes, do games and activities and even write essays about the buttons we want to add that are particular to each kid. Some of my kids use the language from this book for years after learning it, and even have a "remote" at home. This is really the best program of this sort that I've seen, definitely worth getting if you have a child or student who struggles with ADHD or impulse control.

Great book
I really like this book. I am a school psychologist and was struggling with how to help a group of hyperactive and impulsive boys that I have. I was spending much of my session time with them trying to get them focused and in control of themselves so I knew that I needed another approach. I decided to give this book a try and they love it. We have just started making remote controls with products that I got at the crafts store. While we haven't gotten too far into it, the boys really liked the story about Hunter and were able to tell me almost everything about the story and the buttons on his remote a week after we read it. I recommend this book to anyone who is working with students that struggle with self regulation and control.

Awesome book with great activities for ADHD children
I am a Mobile Therapist who bought this book as an activity guide for my ADHD clients. It turned out to be a great tool with the one child I have used it with so far. We made our own remote controls, and we use them every session. I have even added it into my expectations in order for him to earn free time--he must successfully utilize his remote control at some point during each session. I thought the activities would last a little longer, but a lot of them are targeted for teachers in classroom settings. I did my best adapting some of them, but I was a little disappointed that we were done with the activities in just a few weeks. Otherwise, this is a really great tool for teachers, counsellors, therapists, even parents.

Great tool for parents or teachers of youngsters with ADHD
I have used this book with kids in school as a guidance counselor and it is good for ages 6,7-9 years old, maybe a youngish 10. Beyond that age and I think the child would feel it is babyish. I like the language in it, but I change the "pause" button to "stop" because I think that is a word used more commonly with kids and I think 7 year olds get it better. You want language that everyone, including parents and teachers use so it sinks in more. I like the fact that the story is written from a young boys perspective. I have mostly used this with boys. It explains ADHD in a very easy to understand way.

Great resource!
I have used this book in my private practice, and in a school setting. The activities in the book provide an engaging way to reinforce the concepts of self-control. I have effectively used this resource in individual and group settings with preschool - sixth grade children

A must have for teaching self control!
I'm a K-2 school counselor and am using this book for my self control groups. It's an awesome resource! The kids are really connecting to the idea of the remote control and many parents have reported their kids using the language at home as well. A definite must have for school counselors!
