“A Shropshire Lad and Other Poems”
Lovely poetry that tells of the rural world, filled with a sense of loss and sadness. The poems are made more memorable by the beautiful use of diction and language!

Well-formatted for Kindle 3
There IS a clickable table of contents; however, it's disabled in Menu - Go To... The Table of Contents lists the introduction, books (A Shropshire Lad, Last Poems, More Poems, Additional Poems, Translations), Appendix, Notes, Index of First Lines, and Index of Titled Poems, not the individual poems. The indices are hyperlinked, so they can take you to the poem by title or first line. In some places phrases are hyperlinked in poems. Clicking the hyperlink takes you to the Notes section for alternate phrases that were used for some version of the poem. So far, my experience with Penguin Books is that they are very well formatted for Kindle 3. If you like Housman, and if you have a Kindle 3, I think you will be very well satisfied with this. And, to top it off, the Kindle version is available before the print version!

Beautiful and evocative poetry.
I am a consumer of the written word, not a writer, but I have a college degree and I cannot understand why Houseman's work is looked down upon by professional "critics." Maybe they have never lived in a gorgeous countryside with all the beauty and struggle that occurs there for every living thing, from the insects in the pasture, the blade of grass reaching for the sunlight, to the grazing animals, the bird life and the bending backs of the humans tending the fields and woods.

Four Stars
Most poetry goes over my head, but at least I got some idea of what he was talking about.

Still reading this
And so far really enjoying it. Housman isn’t one of those British poets we hear much about in the States but to my ear he’s a pleasant surprise.

Shropshire Lad
I love this collection. Great bonus is the transcription towards the end of the book of a Houseman lecture, his insights to the nature of poetry.

The old ones are often the best
I'd managed to miss this collection for decades, and I can't think why. There's too much to miss, and too many topographical and emotional landscapes to wonder at. It deserves a place as an examination anthology, especially in the present climate: there is much to consider, and to be transported to an earlier age and an unfamiliar range of locations is absorbing and refreshing.

The best poetry collection I have ever read
Hard to know what to say about this book other than that the poetry here is superb. The rhythms are remarkable and the sentiments of the poems are deeply moving. These poems are so concise and crisp and perfect that they function almost like emotional telepathy, directly transferring a feeling from poet to reader with no distortion on the way.

My favourite poet, these poems give you a warm feeling, I have wrote one or two over the years, but this man is brilliant.
