Handguns: The Definitive Guide to Pistols and Revolvers

Beautifully produced but strange editorial decisions
This is a large, heavy, glossy, well-produced book with excellent photographs and a brief history of each weapon. Generally there is one page and one photo for each gun, but selected weapons get a slightly more in-depth assessment. Overall, I enjoyed this very much but I do have some reservations. For me there is an over-emphasis on mid-20th century weapons, with many pages devoted to (to me) uninteresting Spanish copies of better known designs, I'd rather this space was devoted to lesser known 19th century developments. Also, the Colt single action army, arguably the most famous handgun of all time and the cover picture for the book, gets only a double spread, which is the same as several modern high-caliber revolvers. By contrast, the almost equally iconic Luger gets six pages. Despite a publication date of 2013, the most recent examples in here date to the mid 1990's which seems odd.

A Classic
A very informative handbook. I have been very interested in weaponry since I was a child. If I cannot have the items themselves an informative book is a very good substitute.
