We bought this external DVD drive because our laptop doesn’t have a built-in one, and it has been perfect for family movie nights. Along with our projector, we use it to watch movies with the kids. We love going to the public library to borrow DVDs, and this drive works flawlessly every time. It’s easy to use, portable, and reliable. Highly recommend!

Bought it for a Window 11 laptop. When I connected it, the first time it connected and it came up, was visible in windows explore and played a music cd for about 10 seconds and then hung. Attempted to get it to start again resulted in Windows media player screen turning gray with a circulating cursor. Had to force shutting down the app and windows explorer. Rebooted the computer and tried again several times without success. Also connected it to a windows 10 table with the same result. I could not get it to work. Returned it to Amazon and will purchase a different dvd/cd player and hopefully will have better luck.

If you own a modern laptop odds are overwhelming that there won't be a built-in optical drive so if you still want one a portable like this is pretty much your only option. There are two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports on the top of the unit. One UAB-A port is blue (USB 3.0) and one white (USB 2.0). There's also a built-in cable with both a USB-C and USB-A 3.0 end for the data connection to your computer. Another USB-C port marked DC is on the side of the unit and can be used with an external power supply plugged into a wall outlet (which will give you the most consistent results) or plugged into a powered USB port on your computer. A 20" USB-C to USB-A cord is included which can be used for that purpose so unless you plan on powering this with your wall outlet phone charger you will probably need two open USB ports available on your laptop to use this optical drive. I was able to use it without a separate power connection because the data connection provided enough power to run the drive but the instructions recommend against going this route and using two cords for the best results. I tested this drive with my Windows 11 laptop, Windows 11 PC, and Windows 10 PC and it was recognized as a plug-and-play device by all three computers. The optical drive was ready to use in less than a minute. I was not able to get the drive to work on my Linux computer running Ubuntu. The drive worked for playing commercial DVDs and CDs. I also burnt several DVD-R disks which played fine on my Blu-ray player. I'm not sure how durable this drive actually is but it works well enough out of the box to recommend.

This device functions on CDs and DVDs great! Easy setup. It connects easily to my computer and plays discs very well. It's very convenient that there are outputs for connecting to a projector, now I can watch movies on a big screen without any problems. Carrying case makes it perfect for travel or just to keep it safe. I would definitely recommend.

Easy to setup and use. Haven't listened to any of my ancient cds and dvdrs in a while as my laptop doesn't have that kind of driver but I was able to do all that w this.

Very nice product for watching or listening to CDs. Easy to use for burning also
