Valensteins Hardcover – Picture Book, December 19, 2017

I decided to return this book instead of give it to my four year old son for Valentine's Day. Right now he is still at an age where he doesn't think love is gross or mushy. When I read this book while the final message seemed to affirm Valentine worthy love, the middle of the story spent a lot of time with characters suggesting it was yucky. I'd rather not encourage this idea right now, even if the book tries to deliver the opposite message in conclusion. We have, however, enjoyed the author's Fright Club. Maybe this book would be good for older kids who already pretend they think affection is ewwwy.

“Valensteins – A Love Story,” is a wonderful read that my six-year-old daughter can’t get enough of, we’ve read it 4 times every night since it arrived earlier this week. I also sent a copy to my In-Laws who have received it equally well.The book draws on the same wonderfully entertaining characters from “Fright Club,” and tackles a truly lovely subject matter, “Love.”Fran K. Stein is preparing a Valentine for his love interest. The other characters, (Witch, Mummy, Ghost, Vampire) just don’t know what to make of it.They don’t know what a heart is and are trying to guess.One of the more “mature” characters, a Bunny, understands and the group has a diversity of opinions about what love is and what it is worth.Ethan Long uses wonderfully detailed illustrations, and provides a light touch and humorous story that has a nice and valuable lesson in it about the nature of love.I recommend this book to anyone with small children, especially around Valentines Day or Halloween. I expect to be gifting this book for years to come.

Got this for our 3yo’s birthday. She loves Fright Club and when I saw this I knew I had to get it for her. This is a very cute book! It has all the characters in it from Fright Club so she was very excited about getting this! Our 7yo and 9mo listen and enjoy too! It keeps everyone’s attention!

This book was adorable! It entertained both my 5 year old and 9 year old!

The book is great for children about love. That is good story. The children love this book. Ethan Long is excellent writer with three books. I hope he will wrote more books about theses characters.

I loved this book and so did my 6 year old boy! It's one of my favorite Valentines books we've read !

My students thought this book was hilarious! A great read for Valentine's Day, especially if you have read the Fright Club book.
