Now I know why everyone raves about the Earthbox
I got the complete kit for two of them. I noticed that the included fertilizer stated online as organic had a blank label over the part that reads organic. I assume the fertilizer that came with them is not organic after all. No matter. I did use the Earthbox fertilizer on one box and a Build A Soil recipe on the other. BAS is growing some really good looking bell peppers, I planted six in that box. The EB with their fertilizer has an herb plant growing in it and it looks great. All I am doing for each box is ph'ing the water and keeping the reservoir filled when it runs low. Mine were purchased as complete kits that included wheels and fertilizer. I made my own potting mix for the one with the EB fertilizer. As a comparison, I also ordered several Gro Bucket inserts for 5 gallon buckets so all I have to do is ph and water all 15 SIPs. After one season of growing in fabric pots and constantly watering and fertilizing, and in reality always guessing how much fertilizer to use, I have learned that SIPs are THE way to go (at least, if you build the soil prior to planting). All of the SIPs perform wonderfully. I believe the Earthboxes each cost me +/- $50. The Gro Buckets each cost me +/- $17 ($5 for the 5 gallon bucket and $12 for the insert. I would guess that two Gro Buckets equal one Earthbox in growing size depending on the plant. If growing in a 2x4 tent, I would suggest no more than two 5 gallon Gro Buckets or one Earthbox (one could probably squeeze a 3 or 5 gallon fabric pot in with the EB, plant dependent).I do top dress these SIPs when the plants flower and water in from the top but, that may not be necessary. I'm going with the BAS recommendations on top dressing. This is only my second year of indoor growing and the SIPs have resulted in complete success and ease of use. Compared to the previous year of daily guessing how much to water and fertilize. The combination of the SIP and built soil has resulted in plants with Zero problems. All but 4 of the SIPs will be going outdoors this spring to see how they perform.

Enjoying the Earth Box!!!
Overall I really like the Earth Box!! I wish that the plastic was just a little thicker on the sidewalls to keep it from bowing out slightly. Not a deal killer though. The plant food mix and dolomite have made a significant difference over past years potted plants. The self watering is very convenient!! I will be purchasing more of these boxes next year for sure!!

Love it!!
I love earth boxes. Absolutely love them. The biggest problem that I had was that the fill pipe was always behind the tent flap.

Great growing system.
Earthbox is the Cadillac gardening system. Learned about them and other container gardens at a seminar at the local library. Waited to post this review until our stuff really started growing. We have had vegetables growing in containers before, but nothing as sophisticated as these boxes. Assembled correctly they’re self watering and weed free. Comes with a false bottom (aeration screen), water filler tube, “mulch covers”, wheels, fertilizer & minerals. Easy to set up. Nice to move around with the sun.
