Used with the iphone 3GS IOS 6
I purchased the GNS 2000 to sort out my satnav and a couple of gliding applications running on my IOS 6 iphone 3GS. I was a little nervous, as I could find no reviews that mentioned iphones and was aware that IOS 6 has a bug that makes external bluetooth GPS operation difficult. However, I received excellent support from GNS and after a bit of fiddling, it works very well.On the iphone the system changes smoothly between the internal and external systems as you switch the 2000 off and on. I have found that it is best to let the 2000 auto connect and settle down with all lights on before running your navigation app, but a quick switch off and back on of the 2000 clears things if it stays on internal. A good app’ for checking the operation is GPS Status.I have also tried it with Windows 7 Home Premium and a couple of windows mobile 6.5 units. They all worked in the end but I had to reset the input settings for one WM 6.5 app’ (SeeYou Mobile). This is because the 2000 outputs a full house of standard sentences and some apps object. The logger download software (available from their site) conflicts with Norton and you have to disconnect wi-fi and virus protection to get it to work. This is why it is rated at 4 rather than 5.Lastly, a couple of general (in terms of operation) points :-a) It is aimed at the aviation and sat nav markets so it, rightly, has static navigation switched on. Worked OK for me when walking, but geocaching may be a problem.b) Android :- Not tested as I discovered that my Kindle Fire HD will not work with any external GPS as the function is deliberately inhibited in the operating system. Again, GNS Support supplied a lot of good input for Android users.Best of luck, not straightforward on IOS 6 but works well when you crack it.

Great bit of kit !
Purchased this for two things: 1. GPS for Walking 2. Car SatnavThe GNS2000 does exactly what it supposed to do: To make sure you get to where you are going with the least fuss.I tested it out walking on a 12 mile hike round the Peaks (Cat & Fiddle) . I used it with an Apple IOS device which I was using an Outdoors App which I had downloaded OS 1:25 Explorer Map of the Peak District (I also had a paper map as well, I would never just rely on a gadget !). Not once did it loose reception and it was very very Accurate! i'm not kidding, I was very surprised at how accurate it was.Set up was so easy with IOS, just turn on bluetooth, and when it finds gns2000 just connect. It was a little bit fiddly when I connected it to my Mac Mini to test it was properly working but after downloading CoolTerm as per instructions (note: non approved Apple app so you may need to open Security&Privacy settings and check "Allow Application to be downloaded: Anywhere"), and set it up I could see it was working correctly.Tested it on a Satnav, actually on the way back from walking I got my friend to connect it to his Android phone and we used his Satnav App to get us home. Again it worked a treat and again with pin point accuracy. What can I say, i've never purchased a dedicated GPS device before and the GNS2000 is just superb at what it does. Its small (80mmx40mm) and you can put it in your pocket or bag, and its pin point accurate. It will never replace a physical map BUT it could be a life saver if you veer off route.Gets the full monty of stars because I just can't fault it.

Not good for walking based activities
Its difficult to rate this product without bias as it ultimately proved unsuitable for my purposes despite the description stating that it can be used for walking. In the end I gave it two stars because it appears well built and sync'd easily enough with the bluetooth communication software, even if it then didn't play that nice with track recording software.Having taken receipt of the item, I found its tracking did not live up to its stated 1 GPS position transmission per second, well at least not in my use case. Following research and correspondence with the manufacturer I've discovered the current generation of the GNS 2000 uses software which in the words of the manufacturer " holds the GPS position for around 20 m when the speed drops under the minimal speed of 3,5 km/h" this severly compromises its usefulness if you want to capture tracking information at slow walking speeds i.e. trying to ascertain directions etc.Its also worth pointing out that the 1 GPS position transmission per second is slow if you want to use it for motorsport or similiarly fast pursuits. For walking that speed would have been fine if it didn't stop altogether at slow speeds.I've returned the item and will have to keep looking. The positives:- the device seems well built- includes in-car adapter- includes small suction cup- once I'd downloaded the correct bluetooth app, enabled my phones developer mode (android) to enable Mock GPS the GNS 2000 synced quickly with the bluetooth software.Negatives:- Caches position below speeds of 3,5kph- Didn't play nice with either My Tracks or Viewranger track recording softwareThe device may well work for your particular requirements but you will want to investigate thoroughly.

This is all a bit daft.
Had this unit for a few days now and, as advertised, it pairs up on blue tooth with my IPad in an instant. It’s primary function is to receive GPS signals and deliver to your IPad to use with whatever application you choose. With CoPilot it provides a good steady Satnav function and I’m more than pleased with it.The manufactures make a lot about it being fully compatible with the Apple IPad (and as I’ve said it really works well). They also describe in great detail the second major function of the unit, that of track logging. Now the daft part. To read the track log, or to delete log files on the unit you need to download GNS’s software free from their website. And guess what? It only runs on windows! It is totally incompatible with Apple computers. So after all the trumpeting about their special Apple approvals etc, 50% of the units function is totally useless to Mac users.Unbelievable!
