Awful, just awful
After 5 painfull hours of trying to to get the thing to work i gave up and put it back into the box. It didn't come with any instructions!, not even a scrap of paper with a diagram on it at least!. I thought to meself its fine the thing is ment to be plug n play anyway, so i pluged the USB dongle into my pc and got nothing. Just a flashing red and green light on the controller that would not change colour no mater how long i kept the g button down. I went on the web site for some help but that was just as bad. This product is a great idea in theory for anyone who cant use keyboard and mouse like myself. Its just poorly implemented.

There is currently no software with this product , for it to work as a you intend you will have to use a 3rd party program . these are not easy to use and cost more money so its a hidden added extra . I cannot run it in keyboard mode and change even the simplest key bindings I must resort to 3rd party software at cost to me , which barely works and requires time to understand . I cannot get it working and to be honest why should I spend time and money doing so its advertised as plug and play ! . without the correct purpose built free software this item should be avoided its just not ready for the public . and certainly does not replace a keyboard in current state . also does not come with variable grips so adult hands cannot hold it , whilst moving it twists in your hands and you begin to strafe etc without intension. I have contacted paul from the kickstarter project he was good enough to correspond with me . but he' has little understanding of what is required by a gamer vague 1 line answers that are incorrect !

The nunchuck like for PC i was looking for
I am writing that review only few hours after having received the Grifta solo but so far I am fairly impressed by the product . First of all let me first explain what i was looking for to justify my 5 star rating . I do not like WASD commands and at the same time using a xbox controller to play shooter is unplayable on PC, nothing beat a mouse for precision. On another hand the only console i ever had was a WII and there is one game i absolutly loved playing on it: "resident evil IV" . The combination nunchuck and free aiming ( similar to a mouse aiming) made the gaming experience amazing . I could never reproduce that with any other platform. So i decided to look for a nunchuck alike for PC few month back . I found a couple but quite expensive . The fragx from splifish but with bad reviews and the Aimon and venom X 4 from Tuact but super expensive ( like 120£) . Then while browsing Amazon the Grifta poped up. At 34£ it was not a very expensive bet . I bought it on wednesday with a delivery on saturday . Quick and efficient. First star for the quick delivery. I put it to charge for a few hours before i could try it . There is no software provided with the controller and the manual is reduced to a one sided printed sheet. I was kind of worried in case of any incompatibilty issue as i have no clue where to get any drivers. I decided to run my first test with DOOM as that s the only shooter i have installed on my laptop. The usb dongle provided had some issue to connect with the controller. I reset the device and the pairing went without issue . The grifta joystick responded perfectly to the video game . I could finally move freely without having to press the wrong key . The different buttons of the controller corresponding to various key from the keyboard , i still have to figure out which one is what as there is manual in the box to tell what are the default setting button . That being said the toy is beyond my expectation as there is 3 modes ( joypad like , keyboard like and something else i still have to figure out ) In translation the controller is either recognised as a keyboard ( the game display the action required with a keyboard letter :eg : press [E] to open ) , a joypad (eg; press [A] to open ) or a third settting i still have to understand . In any case It is much more that i was expecting pour 35 quid and that a 3 stars on my book .Finally the built quality and the lightness of it is quite surprising , i also like the fact it s rechargeable and it does not need triple A batteries. That s my final star . Be sure i will extensively play with it for the next few weeks so feel free to ask questions .

Great concept but poorly executed / manufactured
The concept is that you can play FPS games using the mouse for the right hand and this controller for your left rather than WASD and other keys on a keyboard. It was exactly what I'd been looking for and the price was great. However ...Main Issues:The unit I received failed to charge or operate without a direct USB attachment providing power. It's supposed to be a wireless controller. Even operating with wired power, the controller had significant problems in that it would a) fail to start up sometimes and then mysteriously start at other times b) when it was running, it seemed unable to stay on the mode I'd selected or would simply stop working.Immediately it became apparent that the operation and configuration of the device hinged on electronics which felt cheap and volatile, hence it couldn't be relied on for gaming. One multi function switch using 6 and 9 second times to change modes or power the device on/off which simply failed to work consistently for me.Further to that, the buttons were far more spongy and less tactile than I was expecting, with the exception of the thumb stick which was first class.Because of the defect, I returned my unit and, on the basis that other reviews had commented about quality/reliability issues, I decided to get a refund rather than chance a replacement. It's sad because the concept is brilliant and the controller model is very ergonomic, especially the hand grip.

Going to need some work to get it working how you like
I have been after sometime like this for ages. Analogue control for movement is going to be so much better. I got one and I think it has potential, but it's going to need some work to get it working right. Bundled software would of been nice as you will need something. I bought xpadder it seems a solid program. Maybe grifta could work with someone like xpadder and get something bundled with the griftaI tried it with a couple of games. And I think it's going to be great for battlefield with a bit of work

Works brilliantly until it randomly changes mode.
Beautiful idea, horrendous execution. Work mint in keyboard mode by randomly changes mode on its own mir fam and you end up standing still and dying. This renders it useless. You get no instructions and even their own instructions on the website are abysmal. Emailed them for support and got ignored. Want my money back.

Have to use 3rd party software
I have been look for something like this for a long time. Even though Ive have been a PC gamer for a long time I have never liked using the keyboard for movement and can't aim with a thumb stick so this along with a mouse is perfect. It's a bit tricky to get set up and you will have to get 3rd party software to change the bindings but I already owned xpadder which even if you have to buy is only 11 dollars. If your coming from console or just don't like using keyboard then for 35 plus 11 dollar for software it's the most affordable option much more comfortable then using the PS NAV controller and much cheaper the the other options out there.

Innovative and ergonomic
This Grifta fills a small niche in the game pad/gaming-keyboard market and does it with much more ingenuity and finesse than you’d expect from a first time product. Its similar to the Wii nunchuk controller and is held in the left hand and equipped with a slew of buttons, triggers and directional controls. When used in tandem with a mouse, it can serve as a more capable and comfortable alternative to a bulky keyboard and allow for playing games away from a desk or other large hard surface. It’s not an unheard of idea; Ive used a Logitech game pad in my left hand and a mouse in my right. The advantage with the Grifta is that it puts all 6 of the buttons built into the right side of the standard game pad in to easily pressed positions on the left. The controller has many useful functions; DirectX and X-input compatibility modes for compatibility with several platforms. There is also a keyboard emulation mode, meaning the Grifta is detected in Windows (and all games and programs) as a keyboard device with each button assigned a key.*The joystick uses: W,S,A,D keys, like most FPS games use*ABXY buttons/d-pad: 2,3,1,T*Frontwards /back triggers : Alt, Z*b and a buttons: Q, F* x and y buttons: X, C< and> buttons: Backspace and Enter keys (Pressed simultaneously, they toggle the dysfunctional motion control system)G button: for toggling between the 3 hardware modes by holding for 8 seconds. Some other important features are a built-in lithium ion battery with micro USB charging port (charger not included), 3 color mode LED and mode-memory; you never lose you settings once you set it. It also come with an interchangeable d-pad or X-box style button arrangement and several sizes of forward trigger bumpers for fine tuning the reach. I just discovered that the handle has a rumble affect; Ive experienced it only while playing FFXV.Initial thoughts aside, I’ve been playing with it for a while and just love it in conjunction with Keyboard mode. I’ve been able to use it for ALL my games with no external software required. In fact all I had to do was plug in the wireless USB adapter then Windows detected it, self-installed everything and I was all set. The only setup necessary was to 1. Follow a guide on the Grifta website about how the top function buttons work for switching modes, and then disabling the dysfunctional motion control system. 2. Then I just setup each of my games like normal, using the game's in-game options to reassign keyboard button bindings. Some unique problems Ive run into over th course of 100's of hours of use: when the light starts to blink indicating that the batteries are low, the direction controls will started to drift forward before losing all power. Also, sometimes after charging, a blue charge light will come on and the controller will stop working -requires resetting the Grifta. Ive also had the joystick go out of calibration - also fixed by resetting.Resetting is simple but not explained anywhere; on the back of the joystick section wheres a tiny hole with a copper button inside. Poking it with a paper clip will fix just about any problem with the controller.

Buena idea, mal producto.
Buena idea, mal producto.
