Son will enjoy!
While I haven't had the opportunity to use this in reality yet, I am confident it will fit the need that I have. I grew up going to the Jersey shore, crabbing off the dock from the lodge where we stayed. I now take my children there and my 5 year old son LOVES trying to catch critters in the bay. I used metal crab traps, so this isn't quite as sturdy as what I grew up with, but it is going to work well for my son. It is quite large, with finer mesh netting to contain the critters. It has openings that are large enough for several of the animals he tries to catch to enter (small fish, crabs). We crab in a shallow bay, probably only about 2 feet deep, so it is easy to see this trap and keep an eye on whether anything enters it. My son is going to LOVE having his own trap next summer, since he has only previously used other people's.

A great deal for those who want to crab on a trip.
For some odd reason, I've been fascinated with crabbing since I was a kid. For even more odd reasons, despite my lack of success doing it for almost half a century hasn't kept me from continuing to try. Easily packable and deployable nets like these have greatly improved my odds and in the past 12 months I've actually caught crabs with some fair success. I managed to pull up some eating size blue crabs and some stone crabs. I caught some various other sea life including a few small fish, some other odd crustaceans, and of course some debris. The main difference between using these and my other attempts were that they were easy to travel with which allowed me to get them immediately out and in the water when I got to my destination. Picked up some bait on the way to the air bnb and opened the traveling traps, assembled them quickly, and deployed them immediately. Previously, I'd usually have to go find a place to buy a cheap trap, almost always the first few stops would be out or too expensive, and long story short it just became a burden and the amount of time lost trying to get ready to go crabbing was inevitably far more time then I could spend crabbing. This made it a snap and allowed me to have the traps soaking while we went and did other things. If you have the bug like I do, I definitely recommend trying these and seeing how they work for you.
