Living Foods for Optimum Health : Staying Healthy in an Unhealthy World

eating for abundant health
This book may seem drastic at first if you are a regular McFood client, but actually, it allows for quite a bit of moderation. In Chapter 6, there is a six-month plan mapped out, with incremental changes, and says under "Personalizing the Program": "If you consistently make living foods at least 75 percent (by weight) of your daily intake, your dedication to achieving total body health will bring rewards that know no bounds".I'm at the 75 raw/25 cooked point myself, and at 58, I'm in better health than at any other time in my life.In Chapter 1, we read how we have exchanged, in the last century, a plant-based diet for a meat-based one, and how "the results have proven to be disastrous for our health and the environment".The regeneration of cells is a fascinating topic (it takes 7 years to complete a full regeneration), and Mr. Clement states that "It's not added years that cause the body to age into a diseased state. It's the cell starvation that results from years of ingesting processed and cooked foods" (pg.42).The causes and cures for many diseases are discussed, as well as depression and alcoholism, and the "Mind/Body Connection".There are numerous food lists, and show how to combine foods for the best nutritional results and ease of digestion.Under "Shopping for Recreational Foods", some cooked food is listed, so one can have a little "fun with food" from time to time. There's a chapter on sprouts, and how to germinate them, and the value of doing so, as well as over 50 pages of recipes. Page 235 has this simple one:"Avocado Cups1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted4 apples, cored and chopped2 tablespoons lemon juice1/4 cup pure waterBlend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into glass custard cups and serve immediately.Makes 4 servings""You'll come to see that the Hippocrates diet isn't a trial by sacrifice, but rather a challenge of change. It's time to look in new directions for the food your body needs" (pg.114)If you want to maximize your health and increase your energy level, I highly recommend trying this raw food diet. If implemented gradually, there will be little in the way of withdrawal symptoms, and I'm amazed that I no longer crave either sugar or coffee...this coming from someone who has had an addiction to sugar since childhood.

One recipe ask for a large sweet potato to be blended
I changed my diet to vegan and was looking for the optimum guide for healthy eating and this book has put me on the right track. The main course recipes Im not to sure about. One recipe ask for a large sweet potato to be blended. I thought a sweet potato had to be cooked until its soft before using it. Or maybe its one of those implied things...not sure. What I liked most about this book is not only does it talk about healthy dieting but it also talks about maintaining a healthy mind. I also like the motivational short stories as well. Overall this book is okay.

Great book written by someone you can trust who can back his claims up
I purchased this book to help aid cancer prevention. It's a good summary of how diet and lifestyle play a huge role in your health. Brian Clement runs Hippocrate's institute in Florida. Many people have gone there for different health issues, and have been cured by using living and raw foods. There's a lot of good info. in this book. Many lives have been saved. Do the research, you will see food and diet changes can make a huge change in your health.Brian Clement also has devoted his life to telling others about healthy living and curing disease with living foods. He's gone all over the world and US advocating these practices.

Good book on Hippocrates diet
Since being diagnosed with a tumor, I was looking for a healthy diet to try and see if it helps me. This book explains everything you need to know about the Hippocrates diet and also has recipes included. It is easy to understand and has lots of helpful tips and tricks about keeping the diet. It gave me lots of motivation to change my eating habits. I don't know yet if the tumor is gone because I've only been on the diet for a few months.

complete no nonsense guide for starting rawfood and leading a healthy life
One of the best books I've ever read getting a healthy life style. It does not only treat the 'nutritional' part but also the 'psychologic' part of gaining a healthy and happy life.Beside treating the theory behind raw veganism this book is also to be considered as a practical and realistic manual on preparing and eating raw foods. The only thing I missed, was that the receipts were not illustrated.

Solid introduction to raw and living foods - its a must!
I chose this to specifically understand the innovative and pioneering work of the Hippocrates Centre, led by Brian Clement in the USA.I was thrilled to find such a well written general introduction to the raw and living foods lifestyle that is accessible to those new to these concepts as well as containing useful information and background for the more experienced. This is the book I will be recommending to friends, family and clients. The consistent referencing of scientific trials adds authenticity and intellectual weight to the principles of living food nutrition which are presently in a calm and straightforward tone.I enjoyed the simple illustrative style of graphics and sequential layout of the chapters. The final section contains recipes which are simple to follow and don't require expensive superfoods. Its a must!! This is THE raw intro food handbook - buy one for yourself and another two to gift.

Too hardcore for me
I've heard great things about the health benefits of raw foods and was looking for an introduction and an induction programme. I'm not naive enough to think I'd stick to going raw overnight - or even if I want to go 100% full-on in that direction - since I'm starting from a position of being an omnivore who enjoys a glass of wine, so I found this book too evangelical by far. I need some persuading I should eat only vegan, also I'm not sure how I'd source most of the ingredients, living as I do in the north of England. For anyone with serious health problems looking for a rigid cleansing diet, this would suit you, but for me it was too hardcore, and I sent it back. Suggestions for a gentler, UK-based introduction to raw food welcome.

Living Foods a lifestyle choice
I am not a complete raw food fanatic, however, growing up in Africa meant I always had fresh food and much of it was raw because it was picked from the garden or tree or bought from a local farm stall. What I am finding interesting is the different approaches each author has to raw food living. Ann Wigmore is a legend in this industry and so Brian very comfortably introduces one into the 21st Century way of living life gracefully by choosing to eat more live foods and the reason why. I am enjoying making some of the sauces and trying out some of the recipes.

For anyone who wants to eat healthily
This is a book that is easy to read and packed with information on how our bodies use food and what they need to stay functioning well. It explains clearly how raw foods provide the elements we need, in a way that is far more effect than cooked and processed dishes. I learnt a lot about the benefits of different raw foods and how to prepare them in tasty ways for maximum nutrition and a healthier lifestyle. So many everyday ailments have their roots in poor nutrition so it is well worth buying this book and making changes that will positively impact your diet and well being for the future.

Claims are made in this book on the back of flimsy evidence
Clement makes controversial claims in this book with little evidence to back it up.
