Nothing too 'Looney', but still enjoyable
The seventh 'Looney Tunes Bumper Collection' packages consists mostly of later Warner Bros cartoons from the Sixties, which weren't a patch on the older 'Looney Tunes' shorts. By the time of it's release in 1999, this two video tape anthology had now made it common place to only include 18 shorts in total (as opposed to the earlier ones which had included up to 30), and the cartoon selections just weren't as interesting. Having said that, there are a few big treats to be found, and a handful of cartoons which still haven't appeared on a DVD release.Like it states in small print on the back of this video collection, Porky Pig and the Tasmanian Devil do NOT appear in any of these cartoons, despite appearing on the front cover (although the same group image of characters had been used since the first 'Bumper Edition', so why change now). There are some interesting, more obscure cartoons spread across these two cassettes, some of which are landmarks like Marvin the Marvin's final cartoon 'Mad as a Mars Hare', 'False Hare', which was only time Foghorn Leghorn would appear in a Bugs Bunny cartoon (and indeed, any short made within the Warner Bros Studios' Golden Age of animation), albeit it only in a cameo, and 'The Unmentionables', a Bugs crime caper which marked the last appearance of goofy gangster team Rocky and Mugsy. As well as the cameo from Foghorn, Pepe Le' Pew also has a tiny part in the Sylvester and Tweety cartoon 'Dog Pound'. Fans of the latter-day Road Runner and Wile E Coyote shorts are catered for by the inclusion of 1965's 'Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner', and 'Rabbit Rampage', Chiuck Jones' Bugs Bunny successor to his famous Daffy Duck short 'Duck Amuck', makes a welcome appearance. As the vast majority of these cartoons aren't as well known as the real masterpieces in the Looney Tunes cartoon franchise, less-devoted fans might well find this 'Bumper Edition' as a treasure trove of rarities, and like I said, some still aren't available to buy on DVD, but whilst some of the shorts are quite good, the rest are generally very pale in comparison to their predecessors, as avid-fans will already know. The cartoons in this package are as follows:1. Rabbit Rampage2. The Million Hare3. Mad as a Mars Hare4. Big Top Bunny5. Shishkabugs6. Foxy by Proxy7. Suppressed Duck8. Bonanza Bunny9. Run, Run, Sweet Road Runner10. False Hare11. The Jet Cage12. Bugs and Thugs13. Napoleon Bunny-Part14. Lighter Than Hare15. Rabbit's Kin16. The Unmentionables17. Dog Pounded18. Highway Runnery
