The perfect compliment to a pitch pipe.
If you seek to tune ANY stringed instrument - whether it be a piano, double bass, bass guitar, cello, guitar, viola, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, or violin - then used with a PITCH PIPE so that you can HEAR the note of the open string you wish to tune on your stringed instrument of choice - this is the PERFECT tuning aid for YOU.The aid detects when Western 'concert pitch' of each note is reached so you can be confident that YOUR instrument will be accurately pitched to 'fixed-pitched' instruments such as timpani, woodwind, reeds, and brass - and it also enables players of brass instruments to accurately adjust the length of their MOUTHPIECES to accurately pitch their instruments so as to achieve a 'tight' harmonious sound.Operation is really simple – all you have to do is:1. Turn the battery cover clockwise to open the battery compartment2. Insert the battery the right way up3. Replace the cover4. Press the button for two seconds to switch on the device5. Press the button to select the INSTRUMENT you wish to tune6. Clip the instrument onto the head of your instrument7. Use your pitch pipe to hear the desired note of the string you are tuning8. As you get close to the required note the display will turn BLUE and display the NAME of the note you are ‘aiming’ for – with a central ‘datum mark to indicate when the string is ‘on pitch’.9. You will also see indicators on either side of the datum mark to indicate whether the note you seek is sharp or flat so that you know which way to turn the tuning peg to tune the note.10. When the note is precisely ‘on pitch’ (A = 440 Hz) the screen will turn GREEN. This is particularly important for FRETTED instruments because the frets are spaced to precisely sound the correct note ONLY when the instrument is properly tuned and the INTONATION is accurately set. If the string is NOT precisely tuned the instrument will sound dull and lifeless.11. Press the button for two seconds to turn off the tuning aid. The aid will ‘remember’ the instrument you selected to tune for next time. You can also use the tuning aid to accurately tune drum kits as well as accurately tune the vellums on banjos and banjoleles to achieve a solid wall of perfectly pitched ensembles such as rock bands, jazz quartets, string quartets, etc.Another great feature is that the INTONATION of fretted instruments can be accurately set by 'pitching the string using the pitch-pipe, and then 'pulling' the second harmonic and comparing the said note with the note sounded at the 12th fret and then adjust the bridge of the instrument to achieve spot-on note intonation right across the fretboard. And the best bit is that the pitch pipe and tuning aid is totally PORTABLE so all 'variable-pitch' instruments can be accurately tuned 'on the go' when gigging - especially useful when 'settling' instruments that are exposed to extreme temperatures such as bringing instruments from a cold environment into a warm venue.Five stars

It's compact but easy to read
I've used a few different tuners but this is the best yet and very reasonably priced. The battery is easy to fit - some are fiddly! I needed a tuner with a large clamp opening to fit on my Traveler Escape guitar. This one opens to 30mm and has really good grip so it does the job perfectly. Using the tuner couldn't be easier. There is one button to switch it on and cycle through the various instruments it can be used on. The instruction say it switches off after three minutes of not picking up vibrations. This is true but it can also be turned off by pressing and holding the button. The display is clear and logical, with a needle that swings to the left for flat and right for sharp. The best feature for me though is that the whole background of the display turns bright green when the pitch is perfect. I really couldn't recommend it more. It is perfect!

Good, basic tuner - reliable, easy to read and operate.
This is the second time I've bought this tuner. First time I was a little disappointed by the display, which had a feeble light (backlit but mostly from above. But it was quick and easy to use, other tuners I've had have suffered broken clips, and so when I needed an additional spare I went for this one again. The display seems to have improved, and I'm happy to now give it 4 stars instead of 3.Other plus points: just one large on-off button (on the back, easily found), which also cycles round the various settings. I have other tuners with two buttons, e.g., for calibration, which I've never found necessary, and it's too easy to hit the wrong button; or sometimes the buttons are too small - irritatingly fiddly on stage. This one is pretty foolproof. My first one is still working, by the way.Not 5 stars, because the display could still be a little brighter.

Great tuner.
I bought this mainly for the price as it was just a back-up one I needed for the guitar I keep in the van to practice at lunch. It's perfect. The backlight shines green when it's in tune which is a nice touch and it's really easy to use.Had it ages, used daily, and the battery still going strong which I'm very happy with. This is chromatic which means you don't have to select the note you want, you just hit the string and adjust your instrument to the note you want; perfect for guitar if you're down-tuning the bass string to Drop D. Keep it on Chromo and you never have to change the setting, just turn it on and tune each string.1 button only - hold down to turn on and hold down again to turn off. Press button once and it changes from Chromatic / Guitar / Bass / Ukulele / Violin / BJ which i presume is Banjo / then F / Bb / Eb. When you turn it off it stays on the last selected option you used so if you only use 1 option you never have to find it, it's always there waiting when you turn it back on.It works on vibrations so you don't need a mic, just clip it onto the instrument and it'll pick up the tone from vibration alone. Perfect for loud gigs as people could be screaming and shouting but this will not be affected by it at all.

Well worth having.
Being tone deaf (!) but wanting to learn the guitar this is brilliant. Allows me to tune up with confidence till my ear eventually learns whats godd and whats not!

Lasted 3 years
Worked very well initally. Then gradually became more erratic even after changing the battery. Kept switching off and restarting every time a string was plucked, with occasionally tuning to wrong pitches so meant a bit of head scratching when recording on previous guitar parts. Got incredibly annoying so ended up using app on phone instead. Tried opreating 2 days ago but dead as a dodo, new battery didn't work. Used it often so managed to get 3 years use out of it in total.
