Much better than I expected!
I bought this bass on a whim, since after 52 years of playing and 50 of those as a professional musician I already have too many guitars and basses, but I thought this might make a change and at less than £125 including delivery it was a very cheap purchase so I treated myself for my birthday. The instrument arrived undamaged, thanks to a large outer box and bubble packs protecting the inner box.At that price I didn't expect much, so when I first picked up the the bass the most surprising thing was the weight of the instrument. Cheap instruments are usually light and obviously made down to a price, but the finish on the body was really good, the neck well made, smooth and easy to move your hand around. The machine heads are positive, nut well cut, and the action set nice and low. The gold plating doesn't look cheap either. So are there any negatives? Well it is not perfect, in some positions in the middle of the neck there is a sort of 'fret buzz' despite there being no frets, so I will have to take a look at the truss rod and the rest of the instrument setup. Still, this is a nice looking instrument, well made, and so far nothing I can see or hear wrong with it that cannot be resolved by a little time with an allen key or two... I have yet to use it through a full amplifier, so I cannot comment on the full electrified sound through big speakers yet, but it is fine through a practice amp.Overall I am very impressed with this instrument. Anyone who has not played fretless bass will find it takes a bit of getting used to, and in particular the fact that you cannot be as imprecise in left hand positioning with this sort of instrument as you can with a fretted guitar can be frustrating, but that would be true of any fretless. As a first fretless bass this is a very good choice at a bargain price.
