Saffron Gin, 70 cl

If you go into any supermarket to look at the spirits section, you'll likely see acres of vodka, whiskey, vodka, rum and vodka, several shelves full of London dry gin, one row of sloe gin, one row of light blue Indian-style gin, and one row of Westcountry-style gin. But probably none of this French stuff, which is a downright shame.I first found Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin at a big national supermarket chain many years back. As is always the case, as soon as I found it, tried it, and discovered I liked it, the supermarket stopped carrying it. (Naturally.) Fast-forward to 2012, and since Amazon has been keeping me supplied with other rare and excellent comestibles, I thought I'd try searching for this product. And Amazon comes through again!Smoother than any of the London dry gins I've tried, and on par with the Westcountry stuff (you know the one I mean) for rich flavour notes, Gabriel Boudier Saffron Gin has a lovely mild spiciness that complements the fruit aspects of the taste and aroma beautifully. The Product Description (above) reiterates exactly what's written on the back label. While said description suggests this gin is good on the rocks or with Tonic water (and it is), it also makes an extremely nice golden-hued variation on the martini. Recommended if you're not terribly fond of London dry gin, but still want a juniper fix, or if you want to try something new and tasty.

Couldn't give half a hoot if 'purists' are put off by the colour; this is one of the best gins I've ever tasted. It's so nice it can easily be drunk neat or in a martini, but comes alive when mixed strongly with tonic (up to around 2:3 gin to tonic ratio), a decent amount of ice and a slice of orange (not lemon or lime.) The orange brings out some of the tart sweetness in the gin itself even further. Superb.

Alright I'm French and I probably don't know much about gin but my boyfriend does. He had been talking about it for month so I got this bottle for his birthday. The cocktail you can make with this gin, orange bitters, grand marnier, cointreau and orange zest is very bitter but if you like that it is probably for you.I personally enjoy it with ice, tonic and a slice of orange (you wouldn't want lime in this gin).The colour that it gives to the gin and tonic is very nice.

If you like flavoured gin then this one tastes like marmalade.Subtle and not overpowering.I'm drinking with a light tonic and a thin slice of orange.Popular with guests.Good value on Amazon.

I love this gin for something a bit different. With tonic and a squeeze of fresh orange it's really wonderful. The saffron gives it a bit of a kick so if you're into your gins but want a little bit extra this is perfect! I offer it to guests a lot and they're always asking where I got it

Imagined wonderful things based on other reviews. A pleasant drink but don't get over excited. Not sure it is worth paying the extra for the Saffron bit. Will stick to normal gin until the price of this comes down.

Mixed or straight its full of taste so no issues. Arrived and packaged extremely well Thank you. Looks the bizz and adds a little class to the evening. Not many have heard of it too a little something special.

Superbly complex, well rounded Gin - one of the best! Drinks well either ‘on the rocks’ or with Fever-Tree refreshingly light Mediterranean tonic water. Highly recommended.
