Sweet Inspiration
I've seen Shackleton whisky pop up on sale regularly for £20. It has a nice back story - which you may or may not be bothered about - but, at the end of the day, it's a reasonable-priced blend of malts (no grain), so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm drinking it now. Before the first sip, I braced myself for disappointment. I need not have worried - it's nice. It is a well-made - or well-blended - standard style of whisky. It tastes like a decent Highland malt with a touch of extra sweetness. It's similar to Highland Park 10, maybe a touch smoother and a touch sweeter. It has plenty of flavour if drunk neat, and the profile changes subtlety when an ice cube is added - it becomes a bit woodier to me ... a bit more peppery, but still sweetish (caramel/toffee/vanilla). This is a decent whisky for £20. It's not a sherry bomb (it tastes to me of bourbon and American oak rather than sherry). It has no peat that I can detect. If you enjoy normal not-messed-about-with whisky, this is £10 cheaper than it should be. A good quality every day sipper. Bargain. UPDATE: I bought another bottle of Shackleton. It tasted slightly thinner, slightly blander and not quite as sweet. It improved over the four nights that I drank it, but it wasn't as good as the first bottle.

Great everyday whiskey
Great price for a good go to whiskey that doesn't cost a lot.

Great tasting Whisky
One of the best blended whisky’s ( in my opinion) better than some of the Malt whiskey that is so revered by some people. Flavour and taste excellent, lovely on its own or with something of your choice. Personally I think it’s far to good to mix with anything and certainly not with ICE unless you are from America where they put ice in everything.

A great robust blend, closer to a real single malt than most.
Whyte & Mackay master blender Richard Paterson's recreated version of the whisky Ernest Shackleton took on his famous 1907 first polar expedition. A slight peat smoke to the flavour, but mainly robust with solid caramel and vanilla. When cutting with water, be generous, the robust flavour can handle a good amount of dilution when compared to a Speyside malt. I find it best when you let a couple of good size ice cubes melt in, to release a few more aromas. Great whisky for general evening sipping - and a great price!
