Worth Every Penny
This book was extremely useful in providing a thorough understanding of the UKCAT and what to expect. It helped me acheive an average score of 777 in my UKCAT, which I recently sat.The book gives an in-depth explanation to each of the subtests, as well as showing various methods and approaches for tackling each subtest. Every answer comes with an explanation of how the question should have been solved, and even explains why the other answers were wrong, which most books I've read on the subject fail to do.The questions in the book, for the most part, were much harder than they were in the actual test. This might lead you to believe that the test is going to be much harder than it actually is. This is a good thing, however, because since the practice questions are harder, the test questions will seem much easier in comparison. My only criticism is that on the Verbal Reasoning section where it only provides examples of one of the two question types you find in the test. While it gives you the True/False/Can't Tell answer format, it misses out any examples of the second question type where you are given four statements and have to decide which one is most/least relevent. So please be aware that the four statement questions are featured heavily in the actual test and I advise finding practice on these questions elsewhere elsewhere. All in all this book will certainly provide you with quality preperation for the test and will certainly help improve your score.

Thinking of spending hundreds on a UKCAT course? Forget it
This is all you need. All my friends who have managed to get into med school all swear by this book. Obviously I can't comment on the expensive UKCAT courses and I'm sure they're good, but on the other hand you're probably reading this because you're looking for a cheaper way to improve your score. I've got good news for you - I've never been to a UKCAT course and yet I have managed to get very good scores all thanks to this book. And it's a very little price to pay for something that provides so many practice questions! I don't know if this edition has updated the Verbal Reasoning section or included Situational Judgement since they've changed it now, but even if not, this is a highly valuable book that WILL improve your UKCAT score. The quantitative section is super intimidating and perhaps a bit too high of a standard from the real thing, but it never hurts to practice anyway. The point is that it teaches you techniques to be as fast as possible, and along with questions it will guide you through techniques and how to approach questions. Doing these questions might make you cry in despair but getting a good score makes it worth it. Your next step will be crying in despair for the interview!!!There do seem to be other UKCAT practice books but this was the best and most accurate I have used.

Good practice for the real thing
This book helped me to secure an average score of 700 in the UKCAT this year (560VR, 680QR, 760AR, 800DA).As well as plenty of practice questions, the book goes into detail about the rationale behind the different parts of the test. It also gives helpful tips on timing and strategies for answering questions.I found it particularly helpful for the abstract reasoning part, as this was the section I struggled with the most when I first tried the practice exam on the UKCAT website. The tips were useful as I scored well on the final test, though the book didn't help my confidence as the examples are quite hard. The same was true for QR, as the examples in the book were a lot harder than the real test. Although the book made me nervous, it prepared me well for the real test. All in all, good practice for the real test. I gave it 4 stars only because it made me nervous for the real thing!

A critical but fair review.
I have bought and read several books on the UKCAT and I must say, this probably the 'least bad' of them. The book provides far more in-depth analysis than other books, and good advice on the various sub-test areas. It does however seem to contradict the rules of some other books when dealing with the Verbal Reasoning subtest(which is quite worrying). If you can only buy one or two books for the UKCAT BUY THIS ONE. The best practice however (in my opinion) comes from going through the online tests and analysing the answers. Combine that approach with the various tricks and tactics outlined in this book and I think (with a lot of hard work) you will be well on your way to succeeding in the UKCAT.One of the areas which I thought to be particularly well done was the Decision Analysis section of this book, which is by far the most comprehensive and insightful of all the other UKCAT books.
