How to Rebuild and Modify Your Manual Transmission (Motorbooks Workshop) Paperback – November 10, 2005

I bought this book because I have a couple of BW/Tremec T-5’s in my fleet. I was not too interested in the Honda transaxle, so didn’t read that part much. Previously, I had purchased “How to Rebuild and Modify High-Performance Manual Transmissions,” which also covers the T-5, and probably was adequate coverage at that. But, I was looking for, and found additional history, and tips in this book, so I will give it a five star rating too. As the saying goes, “A rose is a rose is a rose,” and I thought all T-5’s were the same. I learned interesting facts such as a T-5 from a 4 cylinder, or V6 car is much weaker than those found in 5.0L HO Mustangs, or Super Coupe T-Birds for instance. How to identify a World Class T-5, etc., with 3 pages of build codes to identify them all. A pretty good and thorough book on the T-5.

I am not a professional transmission repair person, hence I needed a little background info as to just what I was getting into in repairing my truck tranny. I found this book very helpful in providing that info and more. I learned alot about how trannies work, are made, should be maintained and what to do and not do when repairing. I did not need the info about modifying but still was a good book for me and would recommend it highly.

I enjoyed the book and would purchase it again. Like most American hot rodders we do not have much enthusiasmfor Japanese products and I completely skipped over the Japanese transmission section.Should be a separate book in my view, kinda a waste of time, can't really see people that buyforiegn cars as working on their own trans. But who knows?

If you want to learn the internals of manual transmissions then this is the book for you. I have a Honda and because of this book I was able to reseal my gearbox and avoid the cost of paying someone else. Now I am the go to guy for gearbox's in the garage. I'm no expert but this book was an excellent stepping stone.

Great book, filled with a lot of useful information.

The contents great and exactly what I was looking for.On the downside the quality of the print is very questionable. Printed in the US, but looks like if it was printed with a cheap ink jet printer.All the photos have head marks on them (horizontal lines) and the edges on letters are not sharp. I expected a bit more than this that's the reason for 3 stars only.

This is a good book for a basic understanding of transmissions. I fix my own cars at home and until now, I have avoided transmissions. Now it looks like I'm about to start tinkering with those.

Since I own both a S80(B16a) and a T5(5.0 mustang) this was a great book to purchase. There is a wealth of information in here that helps with both of those transmissions. Great buy.

Very good book. You will probably need to supplement with YouTube or forums for information specific to your car. A great resource, which helped me repair my own transmission for the first (and hopefully only) time.

Easy to understand, many photos and extra chapter for the Tremec T5 box.Really a good book for understanding with many advice.But you also need the gearbox workshop manual as support.

Ouvrage rare et complet. Permet de bien comprendre le fonctionnement des BV manuelles et de determiner quelles pieces sont a changer. Les informations concernant le troubleshooting sont precises et utiles.Les photos demanderaient parfois a etre mieux choisies pour etre plus representatives.

Very good book, full of information. Think it would help to have a little knowledge of gearboxes already as I myself have never seen the inside of a gearbox. I have now got hold of a gearbox and book has given me what info I need to look insde one. Delivery was a bit long but book in very good condition
