Creative, interesting and fantastic learning resource
The Map workbook is an excellent resource to work on chart reading skills. Not only are there maps of places, but also of different concepts...such as politics. All the maps invite kids to use their imaginations. I thought the US map exercise was particularly clever. In a typical geography lesson, kids would just fill in the map and call it done. In this workbook, filling in the map helps kids uncover which states have the biggest rollercoaster. There are dive maps for sea treasure, timezone charts and murder mystery maps. Very creative workbook that will help kids develop key critical thinking skills.

Is there another book?
I purchased this book for my daughter who is going into 8th grade. However,I realized that there is no reading material for her to understand the concepts. Is there a recommended text that goes with this book for her to be able to understand the definitions and the overall body of work?

I use this book yearly in my 7th grade ELA classroom
The activities and assignments are engaging and fun for students. On the top of each page there are clear directions and examples explaining grammar lesson and activities. This is one of the best books that I have seen for grammar that is not boring and intimidating for students. One thing that affects me in using this book in my classroom is that the theme throughout each of the assignments is the beach. On every page, examples and vocabulary are used that refer to different beach activities, scenery, animals, etc. While some students might not think twice about it, my students are not familiar with the beach, as most have never seen the beach or have ever been exposed to the beach (high refugee population/ELL) so sometimes I find myself having to teach students the background information before they can complete the assignment. While this may not be a problem for most people, I would have liked to have known about that prior to purchasing. I don't think that I am wasting class time, as students need to be exposed to it and it opens the world up for them, it can consume 5 minutes of class occasionally.I recommend this book, I keep coming back to it year after year.

Don't really recommend
I don't really recommend any of the workbooks in this tie dye series. We have about 6 of them. They are not workbooks in the sense that you can work independently (we homeschool). They are meant to be used in conjunction with a textbook or traditional teaching, therefore, most of the activities were confusing and out of context and required research in order to answer. We actually kind of hated them and I only had my daughter use about half of each book.

Eh
Good material, but I bought it to go along with the life science online course. Can't match up the lessons. Will have to wait until class is over for the year then use it as review. A little disappointing.

This was a great follow up to our study of world geography because ...
My 11-year-old daughter loves this book. In her own words, she likes the idea of "solving a mystery using a map." Students learn to use all kinds of maps, including time zone, constellation, world, U.S.A., street, elevation, historical, population, and even political maps. This was a great follow up to our study of world geography because the questions on the world maps are quite challenging.

Awesome
This book is more fun than many of the others we have tried. The instructions are a bit tricky but we like that. Plus the lack of colors, means i can have my Daughter color pages on some of her assignments

Not for us
Meh. Lots of "Mark out the misspelled word" type things with no reference to the correct spelling reference (unless you flip to the answer keys in the back). This book is not intended for "lessons", but practice. I would say that if your kids likes "game-like" exercises, you may find this useful. Personally, I think they tried a bit too hard to make this "not boring" and it ends up being too random and visually confusing.
