Dot Grid Refill for SohoSpark Writing Journal, 240 Numbered Pages, Lay Flat Binding

Quality (paper, printing) is decent enough, BUT...Given the price and description, I naively assumed it was a FULLY sewn binding (sometimes called a "Smyth binding"). It is NOT. While it has sewn signatures (bundles of 16 sheets/32 pages each), the signatures are laid in "perfect binding" glue (like hot glue) which is attached to a card backing on the spine rather than ALSO being sewn together as they would in a true "sewn" binding.In the (1st) picture you can see that the spine is already pulling away from the card backing at a stress point. (The second picture shows a "true" sewn binding from a competing product. The signatures are sewn together and sewn AND glued to a piece of mesh fabric. Notice how naturally it opens completely flat.)Because of this "cheat," it DOES NOT naturally lie as flat unless you "break" the binding in by opening the binding at various pages and push down (hard) on the binding to flatten it."Perfect binding" glue has improved, so hopefully it won't crack like perfect bindings used to, but since I'll probably be using this every day for a year or so, I'm pretty disappointed.Certainly NOT worth the $15 I paid.I saw "hard cover" bound notebooks (cheaper!) that clearly WERE 100% sewn, but was hoping for a softcover. Perhaps I would have been better off buying one of those and cutting the hard cover off. :o(

The dot-grid paper is wonderful to use because it almost looks like you are righting in a straight line without assistance! Eventually i want to use the Soho Spark blank paper due to the fact that it always looks so much more elegant on the blank canvas!

I am a bit of a paper fanatic and this paper was smooth for writing upon, didn't bleed through and was heavy weight.

I love that this fits in the reusable cover. Love that pages are numbered for references. Paper is pretty thick unless I use a marker it doesn't bleed through

I like the dots! I use it for Zentangle doodling and random notes. It's well made, nice paper. It's relaxing!

A good fit in the Soho Spark journal, love the refillable aspect, and the grid dot refill allows for more flexibility while still providing "lines". Lays flat, numbered pages. Very pleased.
