Old school simplicity
The thing I like best about this light is that it has only two modes: On or Off. You don't have to cycle through 6 modes, including 2 different kinds of flashings, to get to the one you want. The beam has a very tight and pretty bright center and a very diffuse and much dimmer surrounding area. Both are pretty evenly lit. From 6' away, the center spot is a little smaller than a volleyball, and the surrounding area is about 10' in diameter. This makes it a very good flood light for close up and a great spotlight for distant objects. This light takes 3 "D" cell batteries to run it, so it's quite large. That means it will be hard to loose in a drawer full of junk, even though it's black (why is everything you want to find in the dark black?) And D cells hold a lot of charge, so I expect this light to run for hundreds of hours, or maybe thousands, before the batteries die. Likely the batteries will expire before they run low.For ten bucks, I think this is a great light!

Surprising quality for very low price.
Bright beam and solid on/off switch. All aluminum construction. Cheaper feel than my old legacy Maglight but for the price you can purchase 4-5 of these for the same price as one new LED Maglight. For around the house or medium field use these are an excellent deal.

No Frills Flashlight
This is supposed to be an economical version of the Maglite. Indeed, they come close to the original concept. The aluminum housing in this light is very thin and the NF threads are easily cross threaded if you're not careful. This light does NOT have a focused beam, it is a spotlight with a fairly tight beam and a large faint halo. The spotlight is not blindingly bright, but it is sufficient, and the beam is not clean and crisp, instead it is rather jagged. If you're in the security guard business, you will really like this flashlight because it is substantially lighter to carry than the Maglite. The entire length of the flashlight is about one inch shorter than a genuine 3D cell Maglite. This flashlight is capable of producing a usable beam for up to ten hours, that is a huge plus. The seals are probably NOT waterproof, but the case is definitely weatherproof from rain. Unlike the Maglite this flashlight will NOT survive being used as a self-defense club. I also don't think the threads on the bezel cap would survive a drop over six feet onto concrete. This flashlight would be great for camping If you don't like having to carry a bunch of batteries into the field.

Does NOT work properly.
Within 10 minutes after receiving the flashlight, I put in 3 new batteries. The light came on for about 10 seconds, then started flickering off and on at different speeds. Would not stop. Tried different brand of batteries. Same problem. Will be returning as unusable.

Efficient
Not exactly what I would call "Heavy duty." It feels lighter than the mini flashlights that run off triple c batteries. So far as brightness, I haven't noticed anything greater than any other flashlight out there. This would be great if you want to keep a lightweight flashlight in an emergency pack for your car or something.

Large Black LED Flashlight
This large black flashlight is very similar to an older aluminum Maglight that I used to have. It's around the same size, but also uses D cell batteries. The difference is this new light is a bit lighter and uses an LED instead of a regular bulb. This light seems very bright although I do have some smaller flashlights that are about as bright. The nice thing about this big light is that it's hard to lose. In an emergency, you don't need to be looking around in drawers for tiny flashlights. You need something that's easy to find, easy to use, and is plenty bright (500 lumens). This flashlight fits that perfectly. There is a single on/off button and just one power setting. It does have some beam adjustability from a wide angle to smaller more focused beam. Since this is an LED light, the batteries last longer than a standard bulb too. This is a great light to keep ready for a power outage or other emergencies.
