For the dabbling Jazz aficionado like myself, discovering Charles Mingus was like finding Gold! I've never really appreciated the Double Bass. I have always found the "Obligatory" Bass solos withing a Jazz tune somewhat boring! I now have newfound respect for the instrument within the amazing dexterity of Charles Mingus's hands. He was such a dynamic force with his compositions and leadership within his many Jazz musician groupings. He influenced so many of his peers--such as Miles Davis. His abstract compositions are a pleasure to listen to--and to fathom the complexity they express. I highly recommend this collection and encourage the purchase of "The Sinner & the Saint," and "Ah Um" for these are real jewels.
