New Year's Eve celebrity fun filled viewing
I accidently rented this film twice, the second time I added it to my rental list unaware I had already seen it and normally I would have been a little disappointed that I wasn't seeing a new movie, but even when I realised what had happened I found myself enjoying it so much I didn't care.At it's heart this is a lovely feel good ensemble peice following the differing experiences of multiple New Yorkers as they approach the Ball Drop on New Years Eve. The intertwining plotlines are easily followed as we begin with Hilary Swank's city worker as she organises the evenings official entertainment as well as trying to fulfill personal obligations, Robert De Niro is a terminally ill patient with Halle Berry as his nurse, Lea Michelle and Ashton Kushner are neighbours stuck in lift, Sarah Jessica Parker is a mother trying to control her bored teenage daughter, Joshua Duhamel is man trying to get into the city for a date with destiny, Michelle Pfieffer is a undervalued PA leaving her job and going on a mad trip around town with Zack Efron, Katherine Heigl is a chef and Jon Bon Jovi plays her ex who just happens to playing at the event she is working, etcFor me the stand out here was watching Michelle Pfeiffer and Zack Efron, it was a really fun thread and their mad journey around town I think for most people would be a great way to spend New Years Eve. None of individual strands are very long so if one doesn't interest you it wouldn't matter because you'll soon be onto the next.A film that features so many high profile actors would usually make me wary of the quality of content, but happily I can say all the multi layered storylines complimented each other perfectly. This is not a deep micro examination of social discourse New York style, but a light well meant celebrity extravaganza of fleeting meetings on the years last day. This is a nice way to spend an hour or so and if I saw it in tv listings I would sit down and watch it again.

Boring, unfunny with a lot of famous Illuminati actors and actresses. Watch The Holiday instead.
The dialogue is a load of babbling, the stories of each individual are crammed in this one movie that most of them did not develop at all.Poorly written with bad acting, all their voices are irritating too. What's going on with Newark? Why do the Illuminati aka Vatican Elite hate Newark so much?I saw a movie last night on prime called The Holiday, a better movie, likable characters and heartwarming. Watch that instead.

what's not to like about it
full of sweetness beautifully balanced. Full of such wonderful _acting_ that doesn't feel like acting. Each character sets up the parts of the others deliciously. All I could focus on was the action! Great! I love it when that happens, and I get to lose myself.I would have watched New Year's Eve just to feel the delight of Efron's character's love-being-here dancing lightly through his part - he and Pfeiffer beautifully underplayed the comedy of their roles to bring to life the both of theirs; or to hear Lea Michele's character sing her solo - or staging the surprise sighting across the crowded room, and these might have been the slightest of the reliefs of a simply oh-so-good film. With a hope, if you care to take one! Thank you, I loved it!

How Do You Spend New Year's Eve?
The premise of this movie is simple: Lots of different stories are all woven into one big celebration of New Years Eve and the countdown to the Times Square "Ball-Drop".I loved that this movie featured so many characters. There really are a lot. I feared this would be hard to follow and prevent me from really caring about any of them, but Michelle Pfieffer swiftly changed that. Her character was awkward, shy and trying to fulfil a list of Resolutions for this year with the help of cocky Zac Efron. The relationship between this pair was fantastic and sold the movie for me.This movie is riddled with celebrities from Katherine Heigl to Bon Jovi, each with their own plans for New Year from organising parties, spending time with loved ones, hoping for a kiss at midnight or sneaking out when you're grounded! It fabulously portrays some of the happier parts of the holiday, but also some of the sadder ones - De Niro is in hospital on "borrowed time" so this really puts things into perspective.A feel-good movie, worth a watch - particularly if you like Rom-Coms.

Really bad job
This movie reminded me that the film industry is a business and sometimes the job is simply badly done. I have to say that most of the movies that rely on a cast of a thousand celebrities are poorly done and this one is no exception. It simply is a bad job. As such there is no story, the characters aren't related in any way, it is really annoying to watch, and slightly past the middle of the film I had to stop watching. Don't waste your time.

Ok but ....
Best if you haven't seen or don't remember Love Actually, which was much better. NYE seems to try too hard, have too many disconnected stories and switch between them relentlessly, and it is only towards the end that connections are made but all a bit rushed. It whiles away a couple of hours though, so perhaps good to watch while ironing or something that doesn't require full attention?!

Dull
This film appears to be desperately attempting to be the new year version of love actually while missing EVERYTHING that made that film good, we have a vast number of characters, of which we get to know NONE of them well enough to care about, and a lot of them serve zero purpose to the film, I feel like I should be compensated for having 2 hours of my life stolen from me by this utter trash of a movie

Too Many Stories
Too many stories, not enough time to explore them so most of the characters were a bit one dimensional and wooden. The chemistry between a couple of couples was hard to believe too. It's a challenge to work an ensemble piece without most of the parts being caricatures and this film did not manage. There was a good cast whose talents were largely underused. Having said that, there is a healthy dose of festive feel good and a few touching moments which makes it worth a watch.
