The publishing of modern occult literature today is mired in the consumerist culture of the United States. New texts are marketed for the "New", "Different", and "Cutting Edge". Such texts more often serve as a distraction rather than as solid a solid basis for spiritual and magic work. This work is a significant exception to that trend. The Picatrix as translated here by two well respected and knowledgeable scholar/practitioners is an invaluable resource for the student of the esoteric tradition new or seasoned. In this book you will find material at the roots of western esoteric practice. This book is actually a good place for the beginner to start, although it requires time and study. But what worthwhile discipline does not? If you need to choose where to spend your hard earned dollars you would be hard pressed to find a better resource than this. It is on my "short list" of must have texts. It will prove to be a useful reference for many years.

It possess a very Clear, Introduction. I really like that it focuses also in psychology...That fact, is really descomunal.

The shipping was fast, very reliable. Chris is my horarist and I trust him completely. However this book is rather scary. I'm glad the ingredients are impossible to obtain (leopard's brain,giraffe's butt, etc), so even if this book falls into the wrong hands, we can be assured it's not easy to do the hex with all those ingredients! I wonder if all that Safari poaching is because of this book?But still a great book to have. This is a treasure for the new generation.

As a book of magic, this is an ancient grimoire. Unlike most grimoire's, this presents ideas from Arab's magical tradition and is largely magic using astrology - on the understanding occult power comes from the heavens and talismans and magical acts require the stars to be in proper alignment.As a Chaos Magician, but also many modern magicians, this astrological paradigm stands in sharp contrast compared to magical concepts that magic comes from human beings and/or their psychology.As a truly different paradigm, as a wonderful piece of history - this book is AWESOME!

If you are closed minded or easily disturbed by sensitive content, this book is also not for you.This is not an 'open the book, find the spell, and begin clearing sacred space promptly after' type of book. I have yet to get into the thick of it, but what I have read so far involves a lot of physics, astrology, and philosophy. This book is from a time and space that may seem unfathomable to many these days.This book is for those who will take the time to study and contemplate the wisdom hidden within the pages. I would take precaution and heed the advice and suggestions repeatedly shown. That said, be sure to read Picatrix in Practice and that which follows in the introduction. And if you are to practice what is within, please take caution and know that you proceed at your own risk. In the introduction it is stated clearly that there are set ups in this book; steps that tell you one thing will happen when actually it may produce an adverse affect... and could leave you gravely ill. It is written as such because those who are adept in this knowledge will be able to recognize suggestions that would lead to folly. Brightest blessings to you and yours!

Despite being an astounding book to just flip through, to practice the material in the book requires a firm grasp of Traditional astrology, which cannot be learned in a book, and has absolutely nothing in common with modern astrology, esoteric or otherwise. You must take classes. It takes a long time. That simple fact is what has reduced the Arts to waving around a holly stick while reciting words of "positive mental attitude" while you "create your own reality" instead of dedicating a few serious years to your nose in the books. That said, in over a decade of serious study, this is one of the few, if not the only authentic period-books on the subject. John Michael Greer never fails to impress & the work of Mr Warnock on the subject of medieval European astrology is flatly incomparable. To the serious student, my best advice is: Buy the hardback version.
