Textiles: The Whole Story Paperback – February 3, 2014

This book offers the story of human culture, looking at the uses and influences throughout human history and around the world. Quite an undertaking for one book, but I learned so many fascinating things about what it means to be human. Plus the pictures incorporated are absolutely amazing. I don't believe there is another volume like this anywhere.Beverly Gordon makes her research accessible to the average reader - no academic background required! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in sociology, issues of gender and power, art and ecology, anthropology, women's issues, human history and development.

I was surprised by how fast I received this book--I was not expecting it until Feb. I bought it for a fiber arts course I am taking and it looks like the perfect fit to understand the history of textiles. The images are great and the cover feels and looks beautiful (like an expensive coffee table book you would buy in a gift shop at a museum). I look forward to reading more as the semester progresses.

Amazing book. I bought this for my graduation project and was greatly pleased. The author does an amazing job at explaining the different uses, cultural importance and symbolisms that textiles have had throughout history and in multiple cultures and regions of the world. I read it and took notes from start to finish (twice), and still, everytime I open it I find interesting things! Highly recommended.

I am taking a class in textiles and this is a perfect reference book.

I saw many books about textile and I must say I am very positively surprised. very interesting photos and fresh view on the role of textile in our life.

Brilliant book! We wear and use fabric every second of every day. Here is the meaning of what we proclaim through our use of what we wear and how we use cloth and clothing. A book to make you think and ponder!

For someone knowledgeable about textiles and looking at the name and description and price, it is not what it seems. It is an okay beginner's book, lacks images of textiles and instead has images of items like prayers flags. Very disappointing.

I bought this book as a required reading for an art class, but it is a mix between a coffee table book and a textbook. The images are diverse and interesting- pictures that you usually cannot find elsewhere. The author analyzes textiles through the history of the world.
