Luger: The Story of the World's Most Famous Handgun

Great book

I purchased this book to understand the history of this groundbreaking firearm. In that scope, this book delivered in spades. However, the author felt it worthy of going into such minute detail that it was difficult to remain focused while reading. I found myself skipping sections of the book in order to avoid areas that held no interest for me. If you choose to purchase this book, do so with the understanding that you will get a thorough history of the firearm and it will be up to the reader to set their tolerance level at the detail level.I gave it 3 stars out of 5 due to its lack of readability to me. Perhaps a chapter providing a general history that is supported by more detailed chapters would have made it easier to digest the amount of detail provided.

Interesting reading.While much of the history is not new, the organization of the book makes it hard to put down.The details are fascinating.more historical than reference

If you want a history of the Luger pistol this is acceptable. However, if you’re a collector or want information about anything except history, don’t buy this book.

I got this book for my husband who just got a vintage luger...informational and good to have with his collection.

Well written and researched. Some useful stuff.

Unfortunately the paper quality and fading print on every other page spoilt any enjoyment for me of this book. John Walters brilliant rendition of the Luger story was badly let down by cost savings and poor standards of the printing company no doubt led by the publishers and corporates. I contacted the sellers of this book on Amazon who asked for photos of faded print. The photos i took and decided not to send could not really highlight the problem in enough detail so am stuck with this hard to read book. Wish i had sent it back promptly hey ho.

Good reference book

Luger is another one of John Walter's famous books. I have six of his previous books and, by now, John Walter is one of the more interesting authors on the subject of Third Reich weapons. Definitely five stars.
