Good intermediate level temperatuer-regulated soldering iron
It may lack some of the bells and whistles of much more expensive soldering irons, but this is at a "sweet spot" for value. It's quick to come to temperature and maintain temperature, and adjusting temperature is much more intuitive than in previous models. They offer a variety of different tips, and build quality overall seems pretty good for the price point.

Worth the money
What a difference a quality soldering station like Hakko FX888DX-010BY make when soldering wires and adding new connectors to wires. I have tried 60-80w pen soldering irons under $20 and they can't touch this soldering station. They don't produce enough heat to solder 12-10AWG wire . Save yourself money and frustration and invested in a quality soldering iron station.

Another Quality Hakko Product
I finally had enough of the less expensive pencil style soldering irons. This Hakko is well worth the extra cost. It heats up in seconds, accurate temp, and the tips are far higher quality than other irons I’ve used. They don’t easily oxidize to the point where they need to be thrown out as quickly as cheap irons. Highly recommend.

AMAZING UNIT , JUST AS GOOD AS THE PREVIOUS MODEL .
This performs just like the previous model which was truly exceptional but I'm quite disappointed that Hakko didn't add an automatic shutoff feature which would make it so much more appealing . The only real difference from the previous 888D is this model has a different heat adjustment mechanism which as another viewer already mentioned makes little difference as the 888D heating adjustment already worked perfect. The 888DX offers a separate iron, (Optional purchase) that can be used with this station which does offer considerably more heat but it's cost is extremely prohibitive costing more than the entire 888DX STATION itself .In closing , as another reviewer said there's no excuse to offer a silver colored iron holder with a different colored main unit , unacceptable , c'mon Hakko.

These are excellent tools at a good price
EE since 1979 and Hakko is one of my favorite brands. Went looking for a 'spare' Hakko cord/iron as the one I have is over 8 years old.Happy to discover that for just a little more $, I was able to buy a complete new unit (put away my old unit as a "spare" now).Love itWould buy again
