Not the Inspector Gadget we know
Inspector Gadget's Last Case is a movie that is based on the classic 1980s kids' cartoon "Inspector Gadget" and riding on the coatails of Disney's unfaithful 1999 live-action film but while, being a fan of the original cartoon, I was excited to see a cartoon film about my favourite police inspector. However, it was not what I payed for.The film itself make the second season (which people are quick to critizise) along with the episodes featuring the badly annoying Captain Capeman seem like gold. The animation has standard computer 2000s animation along with surprisingly garish colours but that cannot save this film. Many aspects of the original Inspector Gadget cartoon were missing. The famous "Inspector Gadget" theme tune is nowhere to be heard. They do try to make the new theme sound similar but it doesn't work. The inspector himself has changed, he somehow looks more cartoony and shorter but his voice actor does an decent job making him sound like Don Adams. The Gadgetmobile, for some reason or another, now talks and does not convert into a van/police car vice versa. Penny look completely different and does not have her computer book anymore (laptop instead) and does not make enough apperences. Brain is also involved but even he was given too little to do in this movie. While, Dr. Claw (his cat aside) is unchanged in apperence, he has changed location and his voice is not as menacing as it was in the original. Plus, Chief Quimby was completely out of character. The plot is very weak. It was mainly about a transformation formula and in which Claw uses it to try and wreck Gadget's popularity. Meanwhile, Gadget is falling out with Gadgetmobile? (why) and there where also two other talking cars but they had little to do with anything, and the giant Italian guy scene was an insult to my intelligence. The name "His Last Case" also accounts to nothing, he stays on the force at the end, so why was it called his "Last Case"?. Somebody please explain! The movie is only mildly entertaining at best. Young kids might be taken by it who has not seen the original Gadget but fans of the original will might wish to stay clear. It has very little to do with original and many fans will not like the updated characters. I sold on this DVD after I watched it. I would rather watch more of the original episodes with Adams than this watered-down impression.
