Paris: Portrait of a City

I was in Lafayette galleries and my husband found this book and loved it!..I immediately started browsing Amazon and found it..I decided to buy it through Amazon to avoid bringing all that weight in my luggage and the price was better. Great photographic portraits of the city and the streets we walk now but in the past. I found this book had iconic images of Paris and is a great conversational piece if you place it in your coffee table!...This book is magnificent collection of photos of all aspects of Paris life from the earliest days....a hundred percent recommend it!

Beautiful pictures of Paris covering the last 100+ years. Really gives a sense of the history and beauty of one of the world's most beautiful cities.

Beautiful little book I found in a gift shop in Paris and regretted not buying! Love that it's half French with the Wnglish translated version in the back. Photos are sensational.

Loved the photos-- both current and historical--- but I didn't realize that the format was so tiny (approx 4" x 5"). This diminished the enjoyment of the book somewhat.

A beautiful book with lovely photographs many of them of the Paris of long ago !

I bought this as a Christmas present for me niece who wants to go to Paris. She loved it. It gives her a little bit of insight into the city she's dreaming about.

The book is lovely and has great photos. I just didn't realize that it was such a small format--only about 6" (that's an estimate). Don't be surprised by its small size as I was.

Great little book that has photo's of Paris from the late 1800's through to the 1950's. The photo's are so random and that's what is nice about this book. One page shows the Eiffel Tower at the Exposition Universelle, whilst another shows you inside the courtyard of an old building. There's some nice coloured images of Paris in the 1900's showing everyday folk at work, people shopping and children playing.Its small size is perfect for reading in bed, and the quality of the cover and pages are superb.

Not cheap, but worth the money. This is a very good quality, weighty volume with a ton of interesting Paris pictures that go well beyond the usual landmarks, though these are of course included too.

I was disappointed when I opened the box: this book is tiny! If I had read the dimensions before ordering I would have realized that this book is not much bigger than a postcard. The content is great, but the photos are so small that it took all the fun out of reading it. I returned the book and bought the big version instead.Yes, there is also a BIG version of this book; I would recommend you spend the extra $20 and get it. That's what I did and I'm thrilled with the full-size version. Not only are the photographs larger, but there's a lot more content. The tiny book is about 200 pages, whereas the full-size version is 400+ pages.As always, the text by Jean Claude Gautrand is excellent and really enhanced my appreciation for the photos.

Pues si, el libro es enorme y pesa casi cuatro kilos. Perfecto para ver las fotos de los grandes maestros en un gran tamaño. La relación calidad-precio, magnífica como es habitual en Taschen. También son muy recomendables los tomos dedicados a New York y Londres. El envío puntual y perfectamente embalado.

Très jolie photos ! En plus on peut en apprendre un peu son histoire ! Donc en lisant ce livre on voyage à travers les phots et son histoire.
