It was worth the wait to find them (well, almost), and worth the money.
I work in a freezer, and as you would expect, my hands get very cold. I have tried for years, to find different types of gloves to keep my hands warm, but with little success. I have worn liners inside other gloves, doubled 2 different types of gloves, but after 15 or 20 minutes my hands would start getting cold. So cold they would hurt. So I was desperate to find something that would keep my hands warm. After months of research online, I still wasn't happy with what I was finding. Everybody advertising their product was the best, but once I read the reviews, and I read hundreds of them, I knew I needed to continue my search. One day, by referencing and cross referencing, I came across these Dachstein mittens. Again, I read over a hundred reviews... but this time... they were almost all positive. In fact, the ones that had issues usually had to do with size and that was probably because they didn't measure correctly. Even then, the company got high remarks for their outstanding customer service. After reading all of this, I was willing to give them a try. Am I glad I did! I had my concerns about spending $65 on wool mittens, after all, wool is old fashioned and not the new micro blah blah blah. Well, I had never heard of boiled wool, and I didn't know if it was just another sales gimmick, but IT SEEMS TO WORK! These mittens are heavy, thick wool, with long cuffs that extend way up your wrist. I didn't want to spend so much money on them, just to have them get snagged on something, so I bought a pair of leather mittens to go over the wool ones to protect them from damage. I've been using them this way for a week now, and my hands have not gotten cold yet. If you are in extreme cold conditions, and need something to keep your hands warm, I highly recommend these. I also recommend a leather shell on the outside to protect your investment. One more thing... you are going to like the customer service! 😊

There Is No Equal
What an absolutely perfect product for cold hands during winter. These gloves will not let you down and their heirloom quality gloves that will last a lifetime. These are not just warm, they’re amazing well made to a standard not seen today. They are by Masters as are all their products, skilled old world craftsmanship and worth every penny. I would like to thank Hermann and his small team in Dashstein Austria where pride and skill Still mean something. I suggest people get these while they can because they’re not gonna be around forever but your gloves will probably last a lifetime and then some, as will everything they make. A big shout out to Richard at Sweater Chalet For bringing these products to the US and making them available. Pay the money there is no equal.

Built like a tank and great customer service!
NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHEAP RAG WOOL MITTENS! These are some serious wool mittens. The weave is incredibly dense and thick, but not so thick that you can't grab on to things like a walking stick comfortably. I have not tested these in very cold temperatures yet, but I expect them to be very warm and incredibly durable. I will update this review as winter unfolds. The fit is roomy, and I could wear my much lighter fingless gloves under them for use on tasks requiring higher dexterity. I measured from the tip of my longest finger to my wrist bone in inches to get my size (9), and the length is perfect. The cuff part of the mitten is long and covers about 6 inches up you arm and fits snuggly to prevent snow/debris from getting inside. I think I definitely want to purchase and review the socks and maybe save up for a sweater. I'm not really a sweater guy, but the high quality may cause me to make an exception. I tend to be very rough on my gear, so I try to only purchase the most bombproof equipment I can afford. The shipping was inexpensive and super fast, I ordered Friday and had by Monday. My package even contained a hand written thank you letter from the owners with their phone number in case they could be of any assistance, now you don't get that kind of personal service very often nowadays.

Don't seem to have the same quality that Dachstein used to have
About 20 years ago I bought a pair of Dachstein mittens and wore them for many years until I finally wore a hole through one of the thumbs. They wore like iron, were very warm, and very windproof. I have only worn this new pair a couple of times so I cannot comment on durability. They are quite warm but I am somewhat disappointed in the tightness of the weave since they do not seem very windproof. I will probably wear them inside some goretex mitten shells to cure the wind issue. Overall, I am somewhat disappointed in these given the price. They do not seem all that much better than a pair of FoxRiver mittens I have that cost only about one third as much.

Made hands colder
I tried to use these mittens outside while hiking. I kept them in the hipbelt pocket. I have a layering system for my gloves, so these were supposed to be my warmest mitten once my other layers were insufficient. I was sitting down and not hiking. My hands were somewhat warm but getting colder with my other gloves, so I put these mitts on. The mitts had become ambient temperature and were so cold that my hands became colder. Of course, any gloves will become ambient temperature sitting in a hipbelt pocket. But these were were so thick that--unlike my other gloves--they took forever to warm up. They had trapped a large pocket of frigid air inside them. After 15 minutes of wearing them, my hands were still quite cold. I gave up and put my lighter gloves back on, and my hands warmed right up.I'm sure these are great if they are pre-warmed or you're doing a highly aerobic activity. But if you plan on using these as part of a layer system, they are not ideal.

Perfect gift for husband with cold hands
I got these for my husband as his hands get cold easily and he's a lift operator at a ski resort. His heated gloves kept malfunctioning so we wanted to find another solution to keeping hands warm. I told him I really liked my thick wool mitts and he should try them. He started borrowing mine which are also a boiled wool mitten but a different brand, and loved them. So after Googling boiled wool mitts, I decided to get these for him for Valentine's Day as they seemed to get the best reviews. He got the over-mitt himself which makes both of them a good glove system. I was also really happy with the prompt, personalized service of the company that sells these as well.

Fits big
These are excellent mittens, but they are almost the size of oven mitts. I usually wear a larger ladies' glove and ordered size 8.5, the size of glove I wear, but these are much too big. I’m thinking about trying again with a smaller size.

Very warm...
Mitts are very warm and high quality - maybe could be a bit longer in the sleeve but they will last forever....
