great service but the book itself has a student feel finish
I was excited to receive this book as I collect pop up books as well as other types.the book looks great from videos I saw prior to making a purchase.when the item arrived it came in good time and well packaged.item was new but the standard of work is rather like a student who's learning how to make pop ups.. I dont know if I was sent the mock up version they made prior to publication or this is what his books are like. crazy how other books with less pop up excitement and less complicated pop ups look better than this. what a great shame as I was looking to collect all of these books from the series. I think I will look at these books in person before making a purchase.

bad quality printing
I bought two copies of this, one for me and one to give as a gift. Unfortunately, the quality of the printing was too bad for me to feel happy giving it as a present. There were ink marks and scuffs on nearly every page of both books. They did not look like brand new books. I have returned both. It’s a shame as I do like this author’s pop up books.

Pop-up smiles
David Carter says that 600 Black Spots is the third book in his set of five which will feature about fifty kinetic sculptures. I recently bought the first in the series: One Red Dot, loved it and thought I would go for the black dots. Like Red the paper engineering in this latest book is very clever though I think Red had perhaps more creativity in it: one spread had some thin poles actually revolved as the pages were opened, another created clicking sounds as it was opened fully.Still, 600 has some imaginative visual goodies. The first spread features a fan of paper strips that is so simple yet stunningly effective; spread five has a left-hand page that requires you to lift up five different colored papers with the last piece very cleverly revealing a mirror and a comment about you; on the right-hand page of this spread you can pull two tabs that move a series of coloured dots up and down and left to right; the last spread springs a sort of porcupine structure towards the reader.I thought it was interesting that Carter writes the words after he has finished the sculptures though I imagine he has a general idea about what each book is about. Some of his writing is clearly aimed at adults like the use of `Fauve kaboom' on the last spread of Spots. He says `Fauve' is French for wild animal (the porcupine effect in the pop-up) which critics said had painted some of the works of Carter's favorite artist Matisse. Roy Lichtenstein's pop art inspired the `kaboom'.The free-form pop-ups in Red Dot, Blue 2 and 600 (plus Carter's two future books to complete his series) will be a remarkable record of what paper engineering can achieve and they leave a smile on your face, too!***SEE ALL THE SPREADS by clicking 'customer images' under the cover.

I love all of this author's books but this is probably ...
I love all of this author's books but this is probably my favourite. It's a well made, intricate pop up book. Yes you will need to show children how to 'read it' but sharing this great book is a wonderful experience. It also is a super way of teaching young children how to be careful, respect books and have a sense of wonder of what's inside the cover of a book. Buy it, cherish it and have fun! Happy black spotting!

600 black spots
This book was a present for my brother in-law. The book was amazing, I had never seen an adults popup book before. Definately one to leave out on the coffee table for guests to browse. It is quite delicate so not really a childrens book.

Mancava mezza pagina

Not worth the money
I bought this book after reading so many good reviews and I have to say I'm disappointed. This is one of those purchases that it would have benefited me to see in person rather than just trusting reviews online. My main issue is that there is no story to read...it is just 15 or so pages of art. While the art is very cool....it lost my kids attention very quickly. I would suggest there are much better pop up books especially given the high price of these books.

Dunno quite what to think, maybe it'll grow on me
As someone who has a collection of nearly a hundred pop-up books, I do appreciate the concept here. However, several spots escaped when I first opened the book and there's no way to tell where to re-place them. A couple of constructs are unattractive and just plain weird. Buy ABC3D by Marion Bataille instead!

Buen estado y precio increible

Great Book
Very creative book. My child does not like reading, but when I bought this book for her, thefascinating shapes forced her to count the black spots, and read the text. She is older now, but still looks at the book from time to time.
