A must have if you plan to visit these woods, the photos could be better after seeing some of the amazing shots on the web. The section on flora and fauna is a bit light weight, but then the book would be too large to have everything.

I bought this book as a Christmas present. It was received quickly. Recipient is very pleased with it.

Great book.

This book follows Clifton Bain's 2013 book, The Ancient Pinewoods of Scotland, and has the appearance of being a companion volume. Certainly, they look good together on my bookshelf. If anything, this book is even more georgeous than its predecessor. It has stunning artwork from Nen Averis (not present) in the Ancient Pinewoods, and Darren Rees, who was and has filled the time between by being artist-in-residence in the Antarctic. Maps, photographs and a beautiful jacket all add to a brilliant production and to this is added a lively and informative text. Clifton Bain's books are going to be referred to in the decades ahead as necessary texts in forest studies but, for the present, they bring one of our most loves but least written about assets, our forests, accessibly and interestingly before the general public. Everyone who loves the natural environment of Britain and Ireland will want this book.

Beautiful book, and makes a wonderful present for anyone fond of the outdoors.
