Do not bother! A waste of your $$$. -5 star.
Either my results were mixed up somehow or the test is entirely bogus. Nearly half of my resulting ethnic groups were Middle Eastern. The rest was mostly black with a few hispanic races thrown in. I am straight haired blonde, blue eyed, and pale with freckles (as is my mother and father) and my mom's great grandmother immigrated from Germany (it did mention Bavaria as number 47 or something) and my dad's great grandmother was French and his other ggp's were from Norway. There was no mention of that. I am having a hard time figuring out where my supposed strong middle eastern and african roots come into the picture. I even sent pix of myself to the company and they continue to stick to their BS. As any sort of genealogical tool this is a farce. Also there is no forum to compare with other users and the information even if correct appears extremely vague. Although they say they can match to down to county and city there appears to be no provision for that in the results. Also their site only seems to run on Internet Explorer. I was barely able to use most of the site with Firefox. At this point I don't know if I would even trust them to do a retest. Btw I paid for the base test and upgraded.... a total waste of my money as their terms say no refunds. Amazon needs to boot this company ASAP.

SO much FUN!
buy it at it's own site. my 38 year old daughter, who has the whitest skin, blondest hair, bluest eyes etc., whose father's genetic background was Western European (we thought) and both sets of my grandparents are from Debrecen, Hungary top 3 genetic matches are - (you ready for this?)1. Hispanic - Arizona 2. India - Bihar - Brahmin - Northeastern 3. Argentina - Corrientes! My son who has easily tanning dark skin, darkest blue black hair and black eyes - who looks like my Dad's side of the family obviously shares the exact same genes (same mom and dad - I swear) Go figure. This was well worth it. I went by reviews and this company was better reviewed than Ancestry. We are very interested in this subject. I am having my results done now and I will cross off all my stuff from hers thus knowing what was her dad (he died in 2006) and what is from me.

I don't think so!
Got this as a gift for my husband who has managed to track most of his genealogy back almost 400 years. Imagine his surprise to learn that his well documented western and northern European ancestry was instead Romanian, African, Jewish and Arabic based on DNA Spectrum's analysis. Seriously?! He contacted the company to try and sort out the inconsistency and was told by customer service that someone knowledgable about the DNA analysis would contact him. That's been almost a year ago, and we are still waiting to hear back from them. Having given up on these charlatans, we tried again with Ancestry DNA, and lo and behold, got results that were more in line with what my husband knew about his ancestry (additionally, Ancestry DNA results were consistent with other DNA test results that some of his cousins had). There were some surprises though, which will help him fill in some of the gaps. Obviously DNA Spectrum has some problems with sample handling - resulting in contamination and incorrect reporting of results, so would definitely NOT recommend them or this product. Complete waste of money.

dna testing
I had expected to get more information as was promised, but to get you must pay more money. It is more or less a generlization of your back round....for more information ,in depth requires more $..at this time I was a little disappointed in the results...I guess when I get more cash I will finish the search

Surprise! You may find something that you never new.
I really liked all the regions they found my ancestors to have come from, but went on ahead and had my DNA tested elsewhere where they actually gave me percentages of exactly how much of my ethnicity, belongs to any particular race and/or region.

they have great customer care and service
A smallish player in the DNA testing field: they have great customer care and service, keeping me updated on testing progress and calling me personally when it was done.Their basic ethnic dma test acts as a good confirmation of other industry test results I had received, contributing to my knowledge of my biological heritage in a field with very limited options for doing so.Their direct marketng business model is one that other firms would be wise to adopt.Future plans by Spectrum include rolling out of new testing options and new services. Expect to find community forums and more social networking in their future, as the strive to expand and serve their growing client base.

It gave me no real information on my family history
I purchased the Comprehensive package. It shows 'generic' markers which means that I got a list of areas where my ancestors came from. Example: my test showed my ancestors came from the following areas - Native American I and II, European I and II, Jewish I, II, and III, Sub-Saharan African I and IV, Eastern European II, and Asian I. Another words, I'm a product of the world. There are no specific percentages to pin point an region. If you want to use this product read the description and go with one of the higher packages.

Inconclusive results
The results show the 50 present day ethnic people with whom you share some sort of genetic link. The link is not described nor is your genome. The descriptions of the ethnic group sampled that you share a link with cannot be easily printed out. The world map that shows the locations of the 50 ethnic groups to whom you are connected are poorly placed geographically and you cannot print out a map that shows a grouping of select numbers as just the first ten or the 30 through 40 groups, etc. The results do not inform you of either your paternal or maternal major genomic background such as you are provided by many other DNA test results. Other tests provide more information for the buck.
