With Christ in the School of Prayer Paperback – January 31, 2013

It came neat and packaged, great price, for the reader this is an amazing book. I started though in the middle only because I joined a class covering mid-way through. This book provides great insight to prayer and the relationship with the one who loves us. It provides direction of us all who are called.

This book was originally written long ago. It is a series of essays about prayer. The author does not assume that the reader already has basic knowledge about the reasons for different kinds of prayer and the varied responses the reader can expect. Instead he thoroughly explains the basic concepts, and to me, the related advanced theology. I found that I often had to reread some sections and even sentences several times before I felt that I understood them. The print is small, and the format isn’t especially inviting, but so far, about a third of the way through the 31 essays, I keep saying to myself, “Why didn’t anybody ever explain this to me before?” I am finding this content and the time I need to invest into each essay well spent.

A great read from a very knowledgeable author. Soul searching.

This is an excellent book, but you better be ready to read slowly and think very critically. It can be difficult to read, so just slow down a little and really give it thought. I've read it multiple times and I learn more each time. There are 31 three to five page lessons that include sample prayers and a lot of Scripture. He is very specific in his discussion of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and ensuring that they are fully integrated into all of the lessons.The chapter that affected me most is the one titled "After This Manner Pray." This is known as the Lord's Prayer, others call it the Disciple's Prayer because Jesus gives His disciples a simple template for praying.Our Father, which art in heaven,Hallowed be thy Name.Thy Kingdom come.Thy will be done in earth,As it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread.And forgive us our trespasses,As we forgive them that trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation,But deliver us from evil.For thine is the kingdom,The power, and the glory,For ever and ever.Amen.

This book is simple to understand without all the theology. There is a place for theology, but not for prayer. Each chapter is full of useful and thoughtful applications for a strong prayer life. I found that after each reading I needed some time to meditate on each lesson. I really enjoyed the closing prayers included at the end of each chapter.

It's a very good book to have.

Well written and a much needed book in the challenging times we are facing now. The power of prayer is not a buzz line and should be taken seriously. For many people including myself there will be times when prayer will be the only thing you will have to depend on.
