Don't buy this. Find another external hard drive!
I use external hard drives for redundant backups, so needless to say, I don't have a lot of issues w/ the external hard drives I use, but I've purchased 2 of these units...and both died/didn't work. First one didn't work from the start...second one died after 2 months. Find an alternative...or pay for the extra warranty.

Quality is not there
The drive works fine but the built quality and assembly is not good. Screws fell off the unit while unpacking, the body was not well closed, like I had to snap the plastic body to close the unit.So I was worried about the reliability. It's not been a problem but stillHas for storage, it works fine. I wanted a 7200 rpm drive and honestly, it's not worth it. 5400 works about the same, latency is the main problem. Everytime you need something from the drive, it needs to wake up and it takes 5-10 sec.

This drive is very sleepy
If this drive falls asleep, be prepared to wait a while for it to wake up. It's pretty bad and not suitable for anything professional. (I did set the OS to prevent sleep, but that didn't help)

Disconnects All The Time and Very Slow For Photo/Video Editing
I normally love SD's products, I own a ton of their small travel size SSDs which have never failed me and are very fast for my work needs. Ive also been using their Extreme Pro memory cards for all my cameras for easily 10 years now. Based on the specs for this drive it seemed like a good option for large file backup and decent speeds for editing photos and videos, however I was very wrong. This drive loves to randomly disconnect, especially while working off of it. It also operates incredibly slow, so slow that even opening preview files and thumbnails in finder take 30 secs to a minute to open. Im genuinely disappointed in this product and of course I missed my return window so now i have a new paper weight for my desk. If you're looking for fast drives to work off of and backup important files, avoid this drive and just buy their small SSD external drives.

It lost its formatting after a couple weeks of use.
It looked and felt like a great drive out of the box. It has a great metal enclosure. I loaded 5TB of footage on it for a project I needed an off-site contractor to work on. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, then one day when I booted up my system it wouldn't appear on my desktop. After talking with tech support they said all I could do was reformat the drive. Luckily, with some third party software and 24 hours of scanning and transferring files, I was able to rescue the project and put it on a different drive. This drive went promptly into the trash...
