It’s ok but very out of touch
A nice little book but badly needs updating

OK, but like all these guides much of the information is identical to each guide
Like all these guides, there is a lot of same information in each book e.g. checking documents etc.The actual model specific information is good, but only occupies at most 50% of the book. However, if you are after an S-type the information is very useful.

A good guide packed with information
Even though I already own an S-Type, I wanted a reference book with specifications etc. This book is packed with information and is good value.

Don't waste your money
Could not recommend to anyone, if you have internet to buy from Amazon, you already have access to more information than you could find in this book. Was hoping this would be a concise guide to well known and less well known issues afflicting ownership of these cars, but this guide misses pretty much all well known issues completely, skips over detail such as model year update key technical content, some photos within are actually of the smaller X-type. Instead the advice could apply to pretty much any modern car similarly equippedValuation Guidance:Value advice is suspect at best, rates a 4.2 Nasp V8 above Sport Diesel for residuals and traditional beige and woods above Sport interiors dark leather sport seats and contemporary aluminium trim. May reflect traditionalist tastes, but try buying an XS or Sport over the more common SE.Technical Overview:Book does not even mention the later 6-speed Getrag manual. Not a single decent over-view of underbonnet (let alone engine-by-engine), one photo of whole engine bay is of a V6 X-type which is transverse, no commonality whatsoever. Pretty essential for a buyer's guide.Maintenance:Guidelines on component price are inexplicable and guide suggests using Ford components where equivalent is available, suggesting European Mondeo as a model with commonality. Other than V6 Engine block, I can think of very few components that could be shared that aren't oil filters or bolts.Specification:One page suggests all cars have auto wipers, another that they do not (they don't incidentally). Again mentions contemporary colour schemes unpopular, completely contest this as prices and fast movement on market match high desirability of Sport, XS and R models, whilst SE which according to this book are most desirable are many in number and considerably cheaper. Diesel is by far most desirable power unit except for far rarer R version, for which most every day users will not consider.

well worth buying
This book is well written and has details on owning, buying and basic maintenance. The what to look for and approximation of repair cost is very informative. These books follow a standard format and this is means if you have read a previous Veloce published auto book then you will know what to expect. Only things I would add are references to on line work shop manuals and potential issues with these. If you are consideing buying this type of Jaguar buy this book first as it could save you a lot of money

Not much real information
I am a bit disappointed in the content of this book - there was little specific information and a lot of general stuff about paintwork, damage etc. What I really wanted was a better list of defects that would shape my decision as to whether or not to but one (I have to confess I already drive a 3 litre version) so it did not tell me what to look out for in the future.
