Digitally remastered two CD set containing a trio of albums from the Country vocalist: I'm Jessi Colter (1975), Jessi and Diamond in the Rough (both 1976). Features the US Top 5 hit 'I'm Not Lisa'. While all these albums made the Top 200, it was the Country charts that they dominated. At one time she was married to Duane Eddy but was better known as the wife of Waylon Jennings, with whom she has recorded. Beat Goes On.

Top-Notch Remastering of Classic Colter Albums
Jessi Colter's triumphant mid-70s heyday at Capitol Records gets a long overdue remastering treatment in this 3-album reissue by Bgo, and the result is sublime. It has been easy to forget the considerable impact of Colter's solo success before she essentially abandoned the limelight in the late '70s to focus on nursing hubby Waylon Jennings' troubles and raising their bouncing baby boy, Shooter. These three albums, all of which topped the rungs of the US country charts and crossed-over to the Pop charts, document the one-of-a-kind, swampy, honkin', tonkin', soulful, country-rock "sound" and orginal songwriting that won Jessi Colter legions of fans all on her own. Classic and well-known compositions like 'I'm Not Lisa', 'What's Happened to Blue Eyes', 'Storms Never Last', 'You Ain't Never Been Loved', etc. still hold up to anything released by anyone in the '70s, but the singles were really just the tip of the iceberg. It's the lesser-known gems that stun you. Colter was above-all an "album artist" whose conceptual music was often breathtakingly original and ahead of its time. Absolutely great songs abound on this reissue, and the emotional sincerity and poetry of Colter's work and pure, tremulous voice shine through as strikingly today as they did back in the '70s. Former Beatles manager Ken Mansfield gets special kudos for helping craft the singular "Jessi Colter sound" as producer, and a truly stellar line-up of session players (Waylon, Ralph Mooney, Richie Albright, Larry Muhoberac, just to name a few) make each one of these albums feel like "events" rather than song collections. Then again, at the time, a new Jessi Colter album ~was~ an "event". Unlike another recent Jessi reissue-set, this edition explicitly states that the music has been digitally remastered from the original tapes. The sound quality is noticeably and uniformly excellent. It's incredible how well her music holds up after nearly 40 years. Do yourself a BIG favor and grab this classic collection while it lasts. BTW, the packaging is a treat, with iconic photos of sexy Jessi, but the liner notes are terrible ... rambling scraps the author admits to culling from the "inaccurate" Wikipedia. Jessi deserved better in that regard, but you can't argue with the music, and THAT is why you'll find yourself keeping these songs on your iPod, or in your vehicle's CD carousel, for years to come!

Now's My Chance
That's what came to mind when I found this 3 albums on 2 discs of Jessi Colter. My parents were very strict when it came to music. One artist neither liked was Jessi Colter. Dad didn't like her because in a radio interview, she said nice things about her husband, Waylon, one of many famous folks he hated.Mom didn't like Jessi because she could not figure out what 'I'm Not Lisa' meant. These days I can get and enjoy any singer I like. There actually does come such a day.And my experience with this one is of easy listening Country like during the era of the Nashville Sound.

I"M JESSI COLTER/JESSI/DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH...CD set from Amazon.comThis 3 album/2disc set is a terrific way to revisit...or be introduced to...this totally underrated artist! Lots of really wonderful classic Jessi Colter here...I remember here concert segment within the Outlaw concerts with great fondness...and these discs capture the feel elegantly! As Country Music has gotten so formulaic and tedious, the freshness of that period stands out like, well, a diamond in the rough!! You can't help but enjoy this CD set! I must ad that the other reviewers are way too hard on John Tobler's liner notes...I found them interesting and informative with that delightful quirkiness that only a Brit can deliver! Play on, Dave Hamilton & Claude Schneider

Jessi's first three Capitol albums
Jessi Colter is not normally mentioned in discussions or articles about the great female country singers, so it came as a welcome surprise to me that six of her Capitol albums had been re-mastered and released on CD. The first three are featured her, with the remaining three onΒ Miriam / That's The Way A Cowboy Rocks And Rolls / Ridin' Shotgun . The only one I ever bought on vinyl was That's the way a cowboy rocks and rolls, so everything else is new to me except tracks I've heard elsewhere.Jessi's two classic songs (I'm not Lisa, Storms never last) are both featured among the tracks here. I'm not Lisa (an American country hit that was also a top 5 pop hit) has been covered by severall other artists including Lynn Anderson (whose version was the first one I heard, even before Jessi's original) and Elizabeth Cook.Storms never last, here recorded solo, became a country hit after Jessi recorded it as a duet with Waylon Jennings. For that version, you must look elsewhere.Jessi also had a top 5 country hit with What's happened to blue eyes, another great track here, while you'll also find covers of two Beatles songs, Get back and Hey Jude. It's great to have these albums on CD, but there are plenty of other country singers who still have very little on CD except hits compilations, and who are just as deserving of CD releases of original albums. I'll look on Jessi's releases as a positive sign that there are serious efforts being made to re-master country albums for CD. Miriam / That's The Way A Cowboy Rocks And Rolls / Ridin' Shotgun

Wonderful
First heard Jessi Colter on "The Outlaws" album. Being a big Waylon Jennings fan I have also seen Jessi many times in concert as she nearly always of his shows. But if she did a tour of her own I'd be there like a shot.As for this release the the songs and backing music sound as if they were recorded today instead of all those years ago. Jessi's haunting vocals are just superb. You get three great albums for the price of one, in my opinion a must buy.Buy it, and I bet you will be looking for her other albums.

Underrated Classics!
Jessi Colter has always been underrated as an artist, but she recorded a string of terrific albums for Capitol Records from 1975 to 1981, as well as a duet album with her husband, Waylon Jennings. Thanks to BGO for bringing her first three Capitol albums back into print with this terrific reissue (and hopefully will consider releasing her 3 other Capitol albums, "Mirriam", "That's the Way the Cowboy Rocks and Rolls", and "Ridin' Shotgun"). However, the liner notes leave much to be desired. I'm not sure the writer even knows who Jessi Colter IS! His major source reference for much information is Wikipedia (and we know how reliable they can be!). He has not conducted any new interviews with Jessi, nor her album producers. That was a major disappointment, on an otherwise welcome release. I would rather have had the booklet include full-page reproductions of the front and back of each album instead of these uninformative, cobbled together liner notes.

Underated talent.
Started appreciating Jessi C when I came across her on YouTube. This lady has talent, with a style of her own and I rate her higher than her late husband Waylon Jennings. This is a good value cd comprising 3 previously issued cds. If you want to sample before buying then try " I thought I heard you calling my name" or "I'm looking for Blue Eyes".
