Red Country (The First Law Trology) : Abercrombie, Joe: desertcart.in: Books Review: Brilliant as usual - This is the third and final stand alone book in the first law universe , it's also widely considered to the weakest installment in the series . So , ofcourse I'd like it . WHAT I LIKED : The first few chapters of the book introduces us , or rather reintroduces us to many familiar characters , like Nicomo Cosca and friendly and Lamb ,the latter of whom the readers are expected to figure out his famed history within the first few dialogue exchanges he ever does . And believe me , fans of the series would just perk up in excitement after figuring out who lamb is . In a way , this book is less a stand alone and more a part of the original trilogy , considering the characters in play have a coloured history , which enables the readers to actually be excited for them and this history can only be known to those who have read the prior books . Saying so , we actually read about how disloyal Cosca is , instead of being referenced countless times about how black he is but always coming across as an anti-hero instead . Same goes with Lamb . So much so , that by the end of the book i was left wondering , whether i wanted these characters to survive ? Coz clearly a better world would rather not have either of these characters , and yet i distinctly remember how my dopamine centres reacted with a happy stimulus , just by seeing their names appear for the first time . The book continues the tradition set as standard by Abercrombie and delivers on gore , death , and some absolutely morbid dark humor . The pages fly by in no time and the near 500 pages book feels like it ended too soon . The battle sequences are beautiful and they are filled with the sense of dread of maybe your favourite character dying , coz this is the first law universe and characters dying is a given. Meanwhile as usual with first law book the climax is filled with surprising reveals and some clever ending beyond your usual fantast sword and magic Many times , it's been said that First law is all about characters ,however this felt like a book about characters and the story around them and the result is a fantasy book filled like a old hollywood western classic. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE : For all the amazement of using the past characters , the character of friendly was really forgotten and barely used properly . Meanwhile even cosca simply became a bitter old villain , instead of the charming , humourous anti hero . The magic element in this book was also very diminished and more was displayed the introduction of technology , which is cool and all , but i came to read fantasy and it was a let down . CONCLUSION: Usual first law expectations are fulfilled and honestly i liked this book way more than i liked heroes . I loved the reintroduction of old characters and the debut of the new characters , the action was top notch and grim elements were absolutely grim. I recommend Review: Lamb? - Wolf in lambs clothing indeed and one of the most interesting characters created by abercrombie aside from bayaz.

Simplemente, genial. Otra vez. Otra vez

Joe Abercrombie continues to impress with each successive work; this one is probably his finest achievement. Abercrombie's done something quite rare: he's stayed within the world he created with his first novels, yet has managed, not merely to maintain, but actually to improve on his excellent initial work. What happens to aging warriors--can they truly wash the blood off their hands, or are they doomed forever to repeat the mistakes of their past? Read on to find out!

This is the sorry story of the man whose frenzy killed all his friends (bar one). There is something sad in this book which is very satisfying, especilally when the main protagonists are dangerous old men. Or desperate ones ? You decide. My opinion is that "A red Country" is better than both "Best Served Cold" and "The Heroes", a very good read indeed. You cannot finish the First Law books without reading this one. You have to be realistic.
