Surprised
I bought this CD after finding the song "Forever Dead" on the soundtrack to the game "Prey". I couldn't find any of this album on iTunes so I took the plunge and bought this CD even having never listened to much of SOiL besides one or two individual songs earlier in their career.I can say that I am surprised by how good some of these songs are, I originally thought I'd be left with only one song on the album. I can say that the songs "Jaded", "Hear Me" and "One Last Song" easily surpass that of "Forever Dead". One previous poster was rambling on about Nu-Metal, this album certainly doesn't fall into that category and this band is way better than the likes of Linkin Park who DO fall into that category.Give them a try. \m/

Not Good
After the departure of Ryan from the band I was reluctant to buy this album. However the reviews seemed positive so I bought it anyway. I was shocked. The music isn't all that bad but the vocals are. No offence to the new guy but he cant sing. It seems as if he is trying to copy Ryan and its just not working. The only half decent song on the album if the title track True Self.Take my advice and avoid this album, even if you are a devoted Soil fan like me, you will be disappointed. Stick to Scars, Redefine and even Throttle Junkies. They are far superior. If you want to hear new music from Soil, try checking out Drowning Pool's new album (when its released) with Ryan singing. Going by their latest song "No More" its gonna be great.

SOiL aren't dead yet!
When Ryan left, I thought that SOiL would lose their distinctive sound. However, this album has proved to me that a band can lose it's leading singer and still be good. The first track "Fight for life" screams out and is an excellent start to the album. Each song has a unique flavour, and it feels like there are no album fillers in the whole thing. I like!

Painfully average.
For bands dumped into the category of 'nu-metal', which died a painful death, it's always been hard for them to break free of that tag and reach a new audience. Unfortunately this wasn't quite managed by Soil on True Self. The simple fact is, Soil haven't produced any material on here which stands out from anything else around at the moment. In fact it all sounds way TOO conservative for my liking. Instead of going for anything verging on the extreme, Soil have created an album worth of mediocre choruses and recycled riffs. There isn't anything really BAD on True Self, but, with the exception of the opening two tracks, there's nothing that makes you want to go back for more; and certainly nothing as memorable as their biggest hit, 'Halo'.3 stars and not hugely recommended. In Flames' Come Clarity is a much better bet.

Awsome....
If you're into metal / rock, buy this album, its THAT good.I have converted rap / hip hop loving mates to this album, the singer is awsome and has easily one of the best voices in metal, from clear hit note perfect to a brutal growl, this is one seriously talented band, enjoy ;-)
