The Magical Battle of Britain Paperback – 28 Feb. 2012

I originally bought this book as a gift for a friend but I started to read it and became engrossed in Dion Fortune and other's efforts to steer the events of World War 11 in a positive direction. Presented in the form of letters and edited by Gareth Knight. Not the easiest read both in language and ideas, but it gives a superb example of a highly dedicated, knowledgeable and powerful woman supporting others and working for the forces of good. As others have said, much of the wisdom contained in her writing remains relevant today. Amazing.

A prototype for inner plane work that applies to our current world situation as well as England during the war. Great respect for Dion Fortune's working methodology. Takes a great deal of concentration to master her steps toward connecting with the work of the beings of higher function, and it is well worth the time and effort.

A Magical Book indeed. Dion Fortune is well-known in the methaphysical field.

"Whatever we may be doing - active service, civil defense or our daily tasks, we should remember that it is a part of the One Life." - Letter 1, 8 October 1939. Letter 5 November 5, 1939: "Nothing and nobody is altogether evil, therefore it is never justifiable to try and destroy any person or thing by direct action, but only to open a channel whereby spiritual forces are brought to bear upon the problem." "Hate is an evil thing in itself, whatever its provocation, and to call it righteous indignation does little to improve it." "Our work is a work of healing, and no hate must come of it." "All the time that we are working for a successful issue of the war, we must look forward to a happy peace of constructive comradeship." These words were written by Dion Fortune to the meditation groups working for the end of the war.

This interesting book is one the emerging tomes that reveal the existence of Winston Churchill's "The Watch" the occult organization he formed to combat the work of Nazi black magicians and astrologers (greatly revealed in fictional form in Jack Reec' book "The Watch" found on Amazon). In this book Fortune reveals the work she did after leaving the Golden Dawn. During the war years she established an occult school at Glastonbury from where she directed a UK wide effort to influence national thinking and direct magical energy against Hitler and his allies. This is a new and revealing glimpse of part of a much larger program directed against the Nazis. The book is a must for the shelf of World War II buffs and historian, and any occult researcher seeking to understand the dark forces that nurtured the early Nazi movement, and then directed its satanic bloodletting across Europe.

Important work if you want to know about magical means to keep the Germans away from England during WWI.

I wanted to read this book for years, but it was out of print. Delighted to finally get hold of it. It's a little dryer than I would prefer, That said, Fortune's letters to her colleagues are very interesting, as are the apparent feedback they got from public reports. Good reference for metaphysical work.

Dion Fortune is one of the few occultists that came out of the Golden Dawn era that truly understood the teachings from a deep hands-on level. This is a collection of letters to her crew which undertook to infuse balance and harmony during the saturation bombing of London during WW II. Our current world situation is in need of a similar type of collective meditation. I highly recommend this book!
