Strictly Come Dancersize [2007] [DVD]

A fun way to exercise which uses your brain too!!
Worth 3.5 stars! I can dance a little ballroom & Latin so didn’t use the instruction bits, went straight to the dances which are explained again as they go along with good cues. Some very fast bits! My favourite is the quickstep followed by the cha cha & jive. Didn’t like the Samba & the Salsa is awful! Nice warm up & worth the money just for the 3 decent routines! Lockdown buy!

Tough but enjoyable
I found this DVD very tough, even though I am relatively fit. If you have no dance experience and are unfit, then do not be disappointed if you take quite a few sessions to master each one of the dances. Karen and Erin take you through the steps before each routine. There is a Salsa,Jive,Cha Cha and a very fast Quick Step. Each dance targets different parts of the body and the Quick Step gives you a brilliant cardio workout. It is very motivating to have each dance routine introduced with the Strictly Come Dancing theme tune and Glitter ball. The music on the DVD is very nice too. There is a warm up and cool down routine as well. Enjoyable but tough. However its guaranteed to get you fit.

It is do-able for the overweight and unco-ordinated - you just need patience!
I have now lost 2 stones but before I lost this weight, I was using this dvd and, initially, I did find it hard to work out how to do the steps, but was soon dancing away - although I found it hard to jump around with my overweight body. It does get you sweating - especially if you do all the dances together -which I did frequently so, personally, I think it is do-able for the overweight and un-coordinated.Don't expect to learn the steps immediately, it does require patience and perseverance. After a few weeks of trying to learn each dance individually, I did actually learn it - I am very unco-ordinated, and I did it in the end. Isn't it the point that you have to take the time to learn it, otherwise it will get boring very quickly? My favourite is the quickstep - and my goal is to get through all of it without falling in a heap at the end of it!I didn't do just this dvd - I also have Flavia and Kelly's but I find this one more enjoyable, and Jillian Michaels, Davina, Nell McAndrew, Billy Blanks etc etc -but I like variety and rotate them constantly. So I would recommend this 100%.

difficult and at times hard to follow
i really enjoy watching all the strictly come dancing series on television. i chose this dvd to complement my regular exercise routine. i wasnt expecting to be the next best dancer on the first time. however, i did at times find the routines very difficult to follow and moves arent repeated enough to allow the participant to remember them. by the time i had got the hang of one move, i had missed the next section. i have attempted all routines numerous times and the only one i seem to be able to get the hang of is karen hardy's salsa. the jive is relatively easy to follow but extremely tiring! i find karen hardy's teaching much more encouraging whereas erin boag's teaching and routines are very boring and difficult to follow. if you have danced before then this is probably a worthwhile purchase however if not, i would not recommend.

You need to be fit to use this!
I purchased this as an injured, unfit ex dancer to try to get fit again at home whilst having fun. Even the warm up was too much, you do need to have some degree of fitness to use this. It's gathering dust now.

Complicated but fun
Like many others who have written reviews, I found with this dvd you have to put in a bit of time to learn the steps but it is fun to try.I am a total Davina McCall dvd addict and use all her dvds regularly for fitness, but this dancing one is great for interest and I do it when I have time at the end of a davina workout just to use my brain for a bit (and did it a few times at the beginning slowly not as a workout at all - more for the dancing aspect).I haven't worked up much of a sweat yet as I don't do it enough to go really fast and end up jogging a bit here and there, but as I love SCD and love learning a few moves it is brilliant. I've never danced before and I'm not the most co-ordinated person in the world - but if it was really easy it wouldn't be very worthwhile (in my opinion). And my goal is to do all 5 and really get a sweat up, which is something to look forward to and build on.Cheers Karen (my favourite dancer - just magic with Mark) and Erin (where do I get abs like that from????)!

Fab-u-lus daaalin!
The Strictly Come Dancersize is excellent! If you can't get inspired by Karen Hardy's contageous enthusiasm & love for what she's doing, the simple yet effective choreography and very clear instructions from both of these fantastic dancers you probably won't get inspired by anything. :)I've been to my fair share of different workouts and this is by far the best because it's actually not a chore to keep at it. It's not the feeling of "oh, it's time to go training-no I'll do it tomorrow instead" that easily shows it's ugly face with other kinds of exercize, those you do because you have to not because you like them. "Strictly Come Dancersize with Karen and Erin" is definitely the kind you look forward to doing! :)Try it! If you don't want to do the whole DVD in one go you don't have to, just choose "Workouts" in the Main Menu, then "Individual Workouts" and you'll get a list of them so you can cherry pick the one you want to try. You can also choose whether you want their easy to follow instructions first or only the routines.

Great fun, but requires practice
This is somewhat different from other exercise DVDs in that you need to actually practice and learn the routines, as they are pretty complicated. However, I like this aspect as I find I get bored by my other DVDs where I can master the routines on the first or second play through. The time passes very quickly doing this DVD as you really need to concentrate on what you are doing! Having said that, the DVD would certainly benefit from clearer instructions on how to do the steps in some places. Overall, great fun and Karen and Erin are brilliant. I would definitely recommend this, but not if you want a workout that you can follow 100% from the first play through. If you want to actually learn some proper dance steps (which, of course, takes time) and excercise at the same time, then this is for you!
