Incredibly eye-opening
I thought I knew what to expect before reading however I couldn’t put the book down through the raw reality of the writing. Incredible.

It's simply told as it is, and you read, and live every moment like you are Andy McNab.
Having not picked up a book for 28 years, I was in my local pub, and they had a small bookshelf with many different books of all genres inside it.The barman told me they were making room for new ones, and would I like to choose a few.I thought well, why not, if I don't read them I've made room for some more, if I read them then I've started reading again!!!So, the 3 books I chose were 2 Andy McNab books, and one other, a similar genre book. The first two I read were Nick Stone books.Thrilling, absorbing and totally addictive.Having read them both within a week I was hooked not only on the Genre, but on Andy Mcnabs portrayal of life, and how things happened. Then, last week, I bought Bravo Two Zero!!!!Well, in fact I bought it on my wife's account, thanks my love. And to say I was hooked was an understatement.I lived and breathed every twist, every turn, every punch, every kick, the highs, the feeling of being out of sight, running for your life, the freezing cold, the feeling of losing control, gaining control, not knowing where Andy's colleagues were, I felt like I was there, as the 9th member, willing them on.I could go on and on, and keep gushing about how incredibly awe inspiring this man is, but his books do that for me.To end this i will say thank you Andy McNab, for doing what you did, for queen and country, keeping us all safe, and above all, for telling us all about it in such detail. Not only have you started me reading again after so many years, you've opened my eyes (And after I've told my family over and over about this chapter, that chapter) to just now lucky we are to have you hidden heroes amongst us!God bless you, and God bless those dear friends you lost, to make us all feel safe!!!!!

amazing. I decided to re-read it recently and although ...
I must have first read this book about 20 years ago and it was quite simply, amazing. I decided to re-read it recently and although I still have the book on the shelf, I absolutely love my Kindle so I decided to buy the electronic version. I discovered, much to my delight, that Andy McNab has added beginning and final chapters detailing his return to Iraq in 2003. There are also many more photographs than the original book contained, so it was really worth purchasing it again. It is the true story of an SAS patrol that was compromised behind enemy lines in the first Iraq war in 1991 by a goat herder, of all things. Their ability to manage their way out of the ensuing fire fight and their escape and evasion tactics make absolutely fascinating reading. During the night following the compromise, the 8 man patrol covered 85km on foot, in sub zero temperatures, with next to no kit and a radio/TACBE beacon that stubbornly refused to work. Some time during the 85km hike, the patrol was separated in the dark. They then became 2 groups of 3 and 5, struggling for survival and aiming for the Syrian border, some 120km total distance from their initial compromise. It's a superb book that talks honestly, frankly and often brutally about the extent of human endurance.

Brilliant
I have read this book a few times since it was first published, each time I try to imagine the unbelievable and extreeme resilience Mr McNab and his patrol endured. Each time I try I fail. I cannot. I cannot because I was never put in this position. Our lives, and the lives of the vast majority of the British public will never come near the strength and self discipline that runs through the veins of these extratordinary people. Reading and absorbing the book over a period of time helps to give a slight insight into the sheer brutality that has to be metered out by the SAS to complete the task in hand. Bravo Two Zero explains the sheer brutality that was in turn metered out to the surviving men of the patrol. The book is brilliantly written in terms that the civvy can comprehend. I will look forward to reading it again in another couple of years.

Different slant on the facts
A good book. This revised edition lacks a lot of detail from the first edition. Less blame on Vince and other members of McNabs team. Details of his torture after capture are a bit over the top. I still enjoyed reading it.

recommended by my trainer at SERE B
In Preparation of some UN Training this year I had to renew my "SERE B" in Germany.Beside of all the theory we asked our trainer whether all those principles were put into action in real life.He simply told us: read Bravo two zero. That's what I did.Concentrating on the preparation and the mission and the mission itself the author only skipped some classified informations IOT no to endanger ongoing mission of the same kind. Apart from this he told us all the neccessary facts to imagine how a military leader on the ground in such a dire straits has to come to decisions to bring the mission to an hopefuly good end. Every reader understands why this didn't happen and is forced to witness how it developed from bad to worse. The author is quite honest and doesn't blame the regiment for the bad equipment and wrong frequencies, but admits where his decisions went wrong. This book definitely is worth reading for all interested in military themes, and if you prepare for a situations where a potential Extraction may safe your life it is a must read.

Very Interesting Glimpse into Special Forces Operations in Gulf War
I picked up this book many a years ago as mass market and read it right away. It was one of the first books I read regarding special opeations in the first iraq war. The portrayal of their time spent before the mission was fascinating to me. How they beg and barrow supplies, the life of the soldiers in the camp, and the level of freedom they had in regards to setting up the mission.Once they got into Iraq the story was great also. Some funny incidents while they were on escape nd evasion across the desert trying to get to the border. With their luck expecting the compass to fail and see a sign welcoming them to baghadad. The only negative in the book in my opinion was the lengthy description of the time spent as a prisoner of war of the iraqis. While I think it should outrage the public how prisoners get treated by our enemies and the outrage over our seeming inhumanity, it just felt really long and just dry and boring.Although the conclusion in the book of how he would deal with his interrogators, one of the best and most honest conclusions you will probably see on the subject.
