Ozu's Tokyo Story (Cambridge Film Handbooks)
F**A
Essential reading on a great film! Get it while it is still available!
"Tokyo Story" was ranked #1 by directors in the 2012 Sight and Sound poll of great movies done every 10 years. Go to the Amazon product review of the DVD to learn about it. It is a Roger Ebert Great Movie. This book is a marvelous collection of essays that illuminates its link to the 1937 American film "Make Way for Tomorrow," discusses the influence of Buddhism and the theme of home and journey, among other topics. It is the only such book available specifically on "Tokyo Story," which I experience as the beautiful serene acceptance of the transience of life through the contemplative, compassionate love of the Eternal Now. The screenplay translated by Donald Richie and Eric Klestadt and with an introduction by Donald Richie makes a wonderful companion book.
