Everything an artist loves!
The minute you receive these pencils you KNOW you have something special in your possession. They are gorgeous...visually stunning but once you hold them you feel like you have the "Mercedes" of colored pencils in your hand. I was almost afraid to touch mine because they were so pristine. They even have a unique sound when the click against each other thanks to the porcelain coating. But, looks aren't everything so I had to put them to the test and they did not disappoint! They performed just as beautiful as they look. Smooth, sturdy cores in heavy pigmented colors in a very large array of colors. And not only your ordinary colors but colors that I would describe as "custom" colors. They also boast both categories (pales, very pales, vibrant, etc), numbers AND names on the barrels which are all easy to read thanks to that beautiful bright ivory porcelain coated casing. I don't have anything bad to say about these pencils. I was going to use them as my "travel" set but they are just too nice for that. The only thing I am not sure of is if they are sold in open stock. For the price, it would be nice to be able to replenish pencils when needed so the set stays in tact.

Wonderful pencils!!!!
I have a few different sets pencils and I have to say this set is just wonderful! Buying all 3 sets is a must!!!! One of the things I like about these is they have more pastel colors than most sets...so they are filling a gap. They are hard pencils and go on light....but I was looking for something like that. I have pages in coloring books I felt needed a light touch that these have. I am presently working on something with these and the Macro Raffine pencils together and I am loving the way it is coming out...they are much alike. I'm very happy to have them in my collection. My husband who don't color said he could not understand why I needed so many sets....I told him they all perform differently....he doesn't understand. I have learned not to judge a pencil by it's price...to read the reviews to see if they are what you want.....price isn't an issue with Faber Castell Polychromos being the one exception...they are the BEST colored pencils I have....but as I say....we don't always want the same look. The page I am working on is from Kerby Rosanes' "Imagimorphia". This book as well as the earlier one by this artist has very busy designs...fun to kinda color one section and walk away and come back later to do another section...maybe a good one to work on while doing another page...switching on and off. These drawings are meant to savor and these pencils are just perfect for these images.

These are some really nice pencils and the packaging and box they come in
These are some really nice pencils and the packaging and box they come in, as well as their overall presentation is really quite stunning. They're well made, pre-sharpened, and come with some really unique color combinations. In fact, many of the colors in these sets are not available in other brands and so they allow for some really unique options. Now, in terms of actually using these, I was very pleased. They glide over the paper quite smoothly, blend nicely, and sharpen to a really sharp point. In fact, their best use is for intricate details because of their ability to sharpen so successfully. That said, these are substantially different from a pencil like Prismacolor because these are not soft core pencils. The Irotijen leads are hard and so take a bit more effort to get color on the page, but the advantage of this is that they don't crumble and the points don't break when sharpening. So it's a bit of a cost-benefit analysis - the lead is harder and so not as creamy as many other artist pencils, but on the other hand sharpen really well and hold a point much longer than most other pencils. I actually like using these a lot more than most other pencils because I've never once had a broken lead through sharpening (which happens a lot with other brands) and so the pencils are really well made. The only reason I took off a star is that while the color options are really neat, they also present a problem. There are many colors that are simply not available in this set. These sets are based on themes like "Rainforest" which is a cool idea, but that means that certain really bright or quirky colors are not available while more natural colors are. Further, if you're really used to the ultra soft and and creamy leads of other brands, you'll likely be disappointed by these. Otherwise, this is a really solid set.

Such Realistic Colors
I absolutely love these pencils. They are a joy to color with and I love how great my coloring looks with these colored pencils.I also love the assortment of pale, deep, vivid and fluorescent colors. But I especially love the pale colors because a lot of my other sets of colored pencils don't have such wonderful pale colors that offset the more vivid colors.I also like to color a page with just one theme like only using the "Rainforest" series or the "Seascape" series for a particular picture .I recently purchased a Japanese coloring book called "Menuet de bonheur" (doesn't have English title translation only French).I have included 3 photos from this coloring book that I colored with these pencils. The 1st photo I colored with only the "Woodlands". The 2nd photo, I am coloring only with the "Rainforest" and the last photo; I am coloring with the "Seascape" .Of course you can color with all the colors but I thought it would be fun to just color with one theme as my way of exploring these wonderful pencils. These pencils are a hard pencil but they are not like Prismacolor's Verithins for example because these are very smooth and they sharpen perfect every time. They do not break and there is no pencil dust. And because they are hard you do not have to sharpen them that often unlike soft core pencils. This also means your pencils will last longer and you won't have to purchase new pencils as frequently as you do with soft core pencils.I sharpen mine with the Faber-Castell Trio Grip Sharpener because it sharpens these pencils with just a crank or two without sacrificing much pencil.

Lovely colours - beautiful packaging
I love these pencils. The colours are beautiful and a bit unusual so if you have several sets of coloured pencils like I do, you won’t be duplicating colours if you buy these. Colours range from soft pastels to vibrant, to dark to fluorescent if you buy all three sets. They aren’t perfect. They don’t blend as well as soft pencils do - I think I would give them 4 and a half stars because of that. But otherwise they lay down nicely and hold a point well. I think they are very nice for adult colouring books. The packaging is great too.

Still itching to try
Was disappointed the order was incomplete so in process of returning. The one 30 pencils received seemed intact but I did not not test. Colours are arranged in tones. Unsure of labelling as it is in Japanese characters so could not work out if set was that of woodlands or forest as the illustration on set showed a cactus. Still unsure by descriptors in Amazon of the pencil being enamel finished. That is, is it the finish on the barrel of each pencil and if so I would need to see if this makes it harder or easier to sharpen to desired lead point or is it referring as i had hoped to the colours appearace once laid down on the paper. I can only wonder.

Stunning Quality Pencils
They are quite hard which makes them perfect for fine details in adult colouring books. What I really loved was the colours. There is a fantastic range of pastels and light shades that are so different to the other sets i own like polychromos and prisma. They sharpen well and are really good quality. The packaging was what initially drew me to these pencils but in the end the pencils are stunning and i would not be without them now.

A couple of broken leads
On sharpening before use (as pre sharpened are never sharp enough to use) two of the fluorescent pencils had broken cores and before even starting to use them you can see how much I have lost on the green

Great colours.
I love these pencils. Great colours and they are so smooth. I’ve tried them on different quality papers and they work really well on all.
